We are a collective of world-class researchers and experts conducting applied research on human potential and movement in the context of the performing arts. Through a cross-disciplinary approach, we strive to solve complex technological, technical or societal challenges. We pool our expertise to find innovative ways to support, enhance and improve the abilities of humans.

Founded by the National Circus School in 2013, the Centre for Circus Arts Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer (CRITAC) is imbued with the core values of the circus arts, which are risk-taking, trust in others and openness to the world. Over the years, we have expanded the scope of our research to include a variety of fields: sport and health sciences, entrepreneurship, sustainable development, equity-diversity inclusion, etc.

Today, we are known worldwide for our expertise in physical literacy, creativity, scientific mediation, product design and digital innovation. Our work mainly focuses on the short- and long-term cultural and psychosocial impacts of specific situations involving both the mind and the body in the context of performance arts.

Our unique approach allows us to study and rethink the dynamic movement of the body to better adapt it to its surrounding environment, with projects structured around four areas of innovation:

  • Human performance
  • Environmental and experiential design
  • Social innovation
  • Digital technologies

What inspires and motivates us most of all is the enormous potential of the human being. Through our work, we help improve the lives of individuals and communities at all levels. CRITAC joins dreamers, nonconformists, entrepreneurs, engineers, artists and all those who want to stretch the limits of creativity, innovation and human capacity.
