It was initially known as the University of Paraná, and it has been since then a national reference when it comes to teaching, research, and outreach services. Therefore, the UFPR historic building, located at Praça Santos Andrade, was chosen by Curitiba residents as the very symbol of the city.
Initially, UFPR offered courses in Legal and Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and Surgery, Commerce, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Obstetrics, being committed since its early age with an innovative vision focused on the needs of society’s development.
The Federal University of Paraná was federalized in the 1950s and then became known as the Federal University of Paraná. UFPR plays a fundamental and innovative role in the history of Paraná, being recognized at the most important national and international rankings, where it has always been ranked 1st in the state and among the 10 best Brazilian universities.
With a history that spans more than a century, UFPR continues to be a source of pride for the academic community and the population of Paraná. Its commitment to excellence, innovation and the preservation of history make it not just another institution of higher education, but a true pillar of educational and cultural progress in the state and country.
