Their mission is to overcome longstanding stereotypes that surround skateboarding by helping others, reinforcing positivity, and supporting a healthy lifestyle.

Also known as the Skate Crusaders, they have handpicked talent from across the metropolitan region and dedicate themselves to meaningfully help those in need. The team is comprised of girls/women and boys/men ranging in ages from seven to seventy one, from diverse backgrounds. The wheelers place of gathering is just a few blocks from the White House. A city block of marble called Freedom Plaza. Its home for all local skateboarders in D.C, Maryland and Virginia area.

The team is committed to help out the community, the homeless, at-risk youth and the elderly throughout the year. In the spring and summer time they perform in parades and at malls showcasing their skills. On Earth day, the crew celebrates the annual Trash-A-Thon by traveling via skateboards with grabbers in hand picking up trash throughout the city.

In the fall, riders also skateboard 47 consecutive miles to annually raise funds and awareness for a different cause. Thus known as the Skate -A-Thon. In the brisk winter Skatin’ Santa and The DC Elves ride all throughout downtown Washington, D.C. supplying the homeless with food, clothes and money during the holidays. The organization has a global reach partnering with Dream House Uganda where they have supplied their youth center with skateboards and clothes.

With the support of community members, The DC Wheels consistently surpasses financial and in kind donation goals. The team gives great thanks for partnerships of past, and those of future. To learn more about this organization you can follow them at:thedcwheels.org
