Tembici is the leading company in micromobility technology in Latin America, responsible for over 250 million bike journeys. Recognized as one of Brazil’s most promising and innovative startups, the company has, in recent years, contributed to a potential saving of 46,000 tons of CO2. In 2022, the company conducted the world’s first carbon credit auction for micromobility and became the largest B Corporation in shared bike services.

In Curitiba, an innovative bike-sharing model has been gaining prominence, combining efficiency, sustainability and innovation. With a robust system, 500 bikes populate the city streets, comprising 250 regular bikes and 250 e-bikes.

The initiative also features 50 stations including 10 charging stations, an innovative technology that allows e-bikes to power up outdoors, reducing logistics costs. Location planning followed technical studies conducted by the company’s urban planning team in collaboration with the city’s urban planning public agency. Criteria such as proximity to cycling infrastructure, potential demand, and adherence to urban planning parameters were evaluated. It’s worth highlighting that the project favors the integration of different modes of transportation, being close to the public transport.

“Bike Curitiba” project not only aligns with the city’s sustainable commitments but also significantly expands the system’s usage possibilities. E-bikes, for example, due to their pedal-assist technology and higher speed, provide users with a smoother experience, enabling longer journeys, facilitating the overcoming of various urban terrains, and requiring less physical effort.

Pricing plans offered in the city cater to different user profiles, allowing for daily, monthly, annual, and even one-time use. The latter option, in addition to being available through the Tembici app, can also be accessed via the Uber app, for greater convenience. There are also plans tailored for delivery riders, who use bikes for deliveries, offering extended usage periods and more economical rates, making income generation and/or supplementation feasible.

The impressive results in Curitiba within just three months of operation reflect the success of this innovative approach. Over 265,000 trips were recorded, indicating the rapid acceptance and integration of the system by the population. This widespread adoption demonstrates not only the viability of the shared bike model but also Tembici’s effectiveness in understanding and meeting the specific needs of each city.

Beyond the impressive numbers, Tembici’s presence in Curitiba also stands out for its ability to adapt to contemporary urban demands. By offering a diversified system that combines regular and e-bikes, the company showcases its strategic vision for the future of mobility.

By investing in technology, sustainability, and innovation, the initiative contributes to building an even more sustainable, efficient and affordable Curitiba, which has established itself as a role model for innovative, sustainable and smart cities around the globe.
