The Paraná Institute of Technology (TECPAR), a public company of the State Government founded in 1940, is a science and technology institute that, with its technical staff, supports innovation and technological, economic and social development in Paraná and Brazil.
TECPAR is present with two units in the city of Curitiba. The Institute operates in the Research and Development of technological solutions and Innovation for industries in different sectors and also in antigens and immunobiologicals for human and animal health.
Three pillars support TECPAR’s operations, namely: innovative technological entrepreneurship, the health industry and technological development and innovation.
In 1989, in partnership with the City of Curitiba and SEBRAE, TECPAR created INTEC, the Technological Incubator of Curitiba, the first technology-based Incubator in the State, to encourage the generation and installation of technology-based companies in Paraná. Throughout its history, it has supported more than 100 innovative businesses.
SMART CITIES
One of the companies supported by INTEC is Metropolys, which developed a platform for managing smart cities and which has already been implemented in a pioneering project in the municipality of Ponta Grossa.
The “Ponta Grossa Mais Segura” project was developed by the municipality with the support of Metropolys to apply the safe city concept.
The integrated system for managing smart cities developed by the company is capable of integrating and monitoring various systems and databases in a municipality and can incorporate information from physical sensors in cities, whether related to security, urban mobility, among others. In this way, the municipality’s demands can be managed within the platform.
HUMAN HEALTH
The IJP, a promising company in healthcare, specializes in the production, import, and distribution of medical devices while INTEC supports the company in developing the manufacturing process for a portable device, unprecedented in the country named TOFcuff. This cutting-edge revolutionary technology monitors patients’ neuromuscular transmission in real time during anesthesia, automating the assessment process.
Traditionally, anesthesiologists manually perform stimuli to assess whether reflexes are still blocked; however, the TOFcuff automates and enhances this process, providing accurate assessments effortlessly. What sets TOFcuff apart is its portability, enabling doctors to carry this state-of-the-art device to various surgical centers, offering unprecedented flexibility compared to traditional fixed equipment.
Beyond its convenience, TOFcuff delivers significant cost savings for hospitals by enabling anesthesiologists to administer precise amounts of medication required to block reflexes during surgery. The device optimizes resource utilization, not only enhancing patient safety but also contributing to the financial efficiency of healthcare institutions.
