Progress isn’t just a metric; it’s a mindset. I envision a world where art is at the heart of innovation, powering inclusive economic growth and nurturing a vibrant, diverse, and connected society.
My journey has been fueled by a lifelong commitment to learning—both through formal education and the invaluable experiences life offers. I’ve embraced various roles, primarily in economic development and tourism, and I am always driven by the passion to make a difference. My diverse experiences have been my compass, guiding me to find creative solutions and turn challenges into opportunities.
Today, I am proud to be the first and only African American female to serve as a Business Improvement District Executive Director in Washington, D.C., and the catalyst of Washington DC’s official Arts and Culture District, established in Historic Anacostia in 2022. “Don’t ask me how I did it, I just did it, it was hard. I just pulled up to the studio and laid it on the line.” — On the Hunt & Chandler.
Through my work, I’ve come to a profound realization: art and culture are not just elements of society—they are its very soul. As we navigate a rapidly changing world, the fusion of art and innovation emerges as a beacon for economic and social development. Art inspires change, while innovation transforms ideas into reality. Together, they drive progress, uplift communities, and foster sustainable development.
The challenge before us is to redefine what economic progress means. It’s not merely a series of numbers or statistics. It’s about enriching lives and embedding this enrichment into our collective consciousness. It’s about curating kindness, being thoughtful, and cultivating empathy. By placing art at the center of our endeavors, we unlock a synergy that propels growth, diversity, innovation, and inclusiveness.
My Declaration to Progress: Let us embrace the transformative power of art and innovation. Let us shape a future where creativity is not just celebrated but is a catalyst for positive change that fosters a deeper connection, resonates with joy, and celebrates diversity.
