TRANSFORMING A SPACE SO IT BETTER BENEFITS THE STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND COMMUNITY

The Findorff Milwaukee team volunteering at the Milwaukee
Riverkeeper Spring Cleanup at Lakefront Brewery

For over a decade, Findorff has been honored to build, reimagine, and renovate various spaces at Marquette University. From smaller and expedited projects to multi-million state-of-the-art facilities, Findorff understands the importance of innovation and deeply appreciates and values the importance Marquette places on it as well. Revitalizing the environment to enhance the experience of students, faculty, and the wider community so it better benefits the students, faculty, and community of Marquette takes a multi-faceted approach, and not one project is the same as the one before. As we briefly discuss a few recent projects that have been a catalyst in innovation and technology, we thank both Marquette and our design and engineering team for making this possible.

COLLEGE OF NURSING

As we near completion of there imagined nursing facility at Marquette University, we are utilizing a façade system, Frontek, which is one of less than ten projects in the USA to be installed. This European based system showcases various innovation capabilities such as sustainability, Findorff self-perform installation, and innovation as a whole. Frontek is a porcelain façade paneling system designed to challenge the tough Midwest climates we endure, resistant to fire, corrosion, and impact. This solution not only allowed for an expedited install, but was a new system for Findorff to continue forward thinking in all that we do.

Thank you to MKE Tech for making this book possible, they are the voice and champion of Innovate® Milwaukee that unifies the community!

WELLNESS + HELFAER RECREATION

As construction is progressing, nearing completion in winter of this year, the Wellness + Helfaer Recreation Center has taken a refined look at sustainability. When we think about innovation, the word sustainability always follows suit – but to Findorff, sustainability is not simply just a word. We are committed to reducing the carbon footprint and improving occupant health within the buildings we live, work, and play in every day. LEED Certification and Fitwel Certification are two project goals, and our team is designing, building, and transforming the space accordingly. These certification programs bring innovation through additional rigor and accountability to the projects sustainability efforts.

More information on these programs is included below:

  • LEED: Was created by the US Green Building Council. LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is a points-based certification program that prioritizes environmental sustainability within categories across site, water, energy, materials and more. LEED plays an important role in delivering sustainability across our projects and Findorff has completed over 40 LEED projects to date totalling nearly $2 billion of construction.
  • Fitwel: Was originally created by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and U.S. General Services Administration and is founded in decades of evidence-based public health research. Fitwel is another points-based certification program but prioritizes occupant health and wellbeing through looking to increase physical activity within our built environment. Fitwel strategies cover abroad range of building and operational strategies including access to healthy air and water, physical activity spaces, access to healthy food and more.

Safety was a key attribute carefully thought out throughout this project. As with every project, safety is the leading factor in every step of the way. Findorff has a safety program we strive to implement from all aspects in our projects called 5S.The initial purpose of this program was to reduce injuries and improve site housekeeping. Setting standards for jobsite organization and cleanliness, eliminating waste on our sites, and reducing injuries, the 5s process creates a positive work environment and culture by ensuring all contractors eliminate waste in everything they do. Aware of how crucial it is to keep everyone at the project site safe, as well as an overall safe jobsite, we implemented5S throughout construction of the new O’Brien Hall. Implementation of 5S throughout the duration of construction contributed to an overall safer jobsite, and the zero injuries we saw throughout the 18-monthtimeframe, can be contributed to this program.
