Thales: One of the world’s most innovative companies
At Thales, we believe that technology makes the world a safer place. By innovating with our customers and partners, we build solutions that deliver real benefit to the markets we serve. With a clear focus on critical transformative technologies, we drive disruption where it matters most, for a positive impact on the world around us.
More than just buzz words; big data, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and connectivity, are core capabilities that are at the forefront of new solutions in defence and civil domains and the foundation of Thales’ Digital Transformation.
Thales is a leader in R&D investment in Canada. Globally, Thales employs more than 25,000 researchers and engineers supporting the big ambitions of its customers and partners.
Closer relations with top universities and academic research institutes
In late 2017, Thales chose Canada as a key part of its more than $1 billion global investment in transformative digital technologies with the creation of cortAIx, a Centre of Research and Technology in Artificial Intelligence eXpertise, based in Montreal, and home to Thales’ Digital Factory in North America.
Thales made a commitment to ethical AI development that ensures humans remain at the core of these new capabilities. cortAIx is home to 50 world class experts who work together to strengthen the capabilities of critical technologies, ensuring that it is explainable and trusted. These activities further support Thales Canada’s role as a participant in SCALE.AI, one of Canada’s five Innovation Superclusters.
The recent acquisitions of big data company Guavus, e-security firm Vormetric, and global digital security leader Gemalto, will continue to drive Thales’ global digital transformation. As a national leader in corporate R&D investment and partner to IVADO, Thales partners with more than 500 Canadian companies and leading academic and research institutions including the University of Toronto, McGill University, Laval University and École Polytechnique de Montréal, resulting in a proven track record of successful Canadian technology development.
The explosion of digital technologies is an essential ingredient to boost innovation, advancing the creative process to develop new solutions for a world that is increasingly data-driven, connected, immersive and reliant on autonomous systems. Thales has an important role to play in accelerating the digital transformation of its partners around the world. Working with CENTECH, Thales will support projects created by start-ups in the field of artificial intelligence, which is one of Thales’ four key digital technologies,
alongside connectivity, big data and cybersecurity. CENTECH has been recognized by the University Business Network (UBI) as one of the most effective accelerators in the world.
Through the [email protected] programme, actively supported by the Thales Digital Factory, Thales will accelerate the development of start-ups, providing business advice, technology expertise and infrastructure services, as well as access to the Group’s five core markets in the aerospace, space, transport, defence and security sectors to promote the use of artificial intelligence in critical decision-making.
Thales avionics helps shape the future of transportation
Thales’ unmatched avionics expertise is demonstrated by successful developments on some of the most innovative aircraft programs in the world. Based in Montreal, Thales Avionics brings more than 35 years of experience in the innovation, development, integration and certification of critical systems that meet the highest security and reliability standards to ensure flight safety.
“The skies above crowded city streets are quickly becoming the next frontier for on-demand mobility,” said Michel Grenier, Vice President, General Manager for Thales North America Avionics. “As part of the Bell Nexus team, Thales will play a leading role in shaping urban air mobility services for the next generation of on-demand transportation.”
