CREATIVE POOL 2019: INDEPENDENT AGENCY OF THE YEAR
We’re Taxi Studio, the independent Brand Design Agency with a fervent belief that Courage and Collaboration deliver true success. We call this Fearless Creativity. And it drives everything we do.
Fearlessly starting a business in Bristol in 2002 (when London was where it was all ‘appening) it’s now 16 years on and we’re going from strength to strength and still proudly independent. Now a 50 strong team having added 16 more superstars during 2018 and still ahead of the curve with over 60% of us female. Working with local initiatives that need our support, start-ups that need a brand to get them going and the big players that we’ve collaborated with for years including Coke, Nestlé, Carlsberg. For us it’s all about real relationships – it’s one of our values.
2018 neatly scooped us 18 awards across multiple categories and countries. We established relationships and started working with five major global brands to ensure our spread of clients is healthier than ever. These new relationships have meant we’ve opened up workstreams in Canada, SE Asia, Africa, China, Korea, Qatar, Russia and India.
We entered the DBA Design Effectiveness awards for the first time with our work for the rebrand of Carlsberg EXPØRT and won the Grand Prix. Bar set very high. We launched our largest ever on-going project in the form of Carlsberg’s Global Rebrand and collaborated with Coca-Cola to support their evolution into a total beverage company. To add the cherry on the top, we were named the best agency outside London for the second year in a row and received the title of No.2 Independent brand design agency on the planet. Pretty fabulous.
We refreshed our employee promise, to ensure what we’re offering is fair – fairness being another of our values. Everyone now benefits from flexible working, individual training and inspiration budgets, healthcare and enhanced maternity and paternity. We also launched an internal ‘Good for Something’ award – a chance for some formalised peer-to-peer recognition with an end of year vote and reward for the winner.
A band of six juniors from across the business formed a junior-led initiative called Jun1hr (pronounced Juni-Hour) to get together and work on a broad range of projects, to bounce ideas, craft skills and contribute new perspectives. To us, it is the epitome of Fearless Creativity.
And we’ve gone out of our way to support the next creative generation.
We launched Creative Discomforts with D&AD at New Blood aiming to instill creative courage in new designers. And locally we’re involved with Werkhouse – as part of its inception and continued delivery – an industry-led design learning initiative to help find alternatives to the design graduate pathway, supported by a host of local Bristol and Bath design agencies and held annually over a weekend in our studio.
And of course, we visit as many universities as we can and offer paid internships to those whom we think are a good fit. Our instincts are pretty honed, we hired the last two interns!
