ROWAN UNIVERSITY

INNOVATION THROUGH EDUCATION

INNOVATIONS

OF THE WORLD

FOR TODAY'S BIG THINKERS

One of the top 100 public research institutions in the nation, Rowan University doesn’t just educate—it innovates. That’s obvious:

  • In its growth in recent years—that includes more programs and doctoral degrees. More buildings (including new structures for the School of Earth & Environment, the Rohrer College of Business and the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering to accommodate growing enrollment). And more students, doubling enrollment in little more than a decade to nearly 23,000, making Rowan the third fastest-growing public research university in the United States, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education
  • In recognition—Rowan earned Carnegie R2 (High Research Activity) research status. U.S. News & World Report and other publications and organizations continue to rank Rowan highly. And faculty, staff and students consistently receive honors at the regional, national and international levels, including Fulbright, Goldwater and Boren awards, as well as funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities, among other organizations.
  • In research—Rowan enjoys long-term partnerships and collaborations with business and industry, government and nonprofit organizations in New Jersey and beyond, often serving as their de facto R&D arm. The work spans Rowan’s medical schools, STEM programs, humanities, and more, while developing new relationships, including with Lockheed Martin, the U.S. Army and a host of business and government organizations.
  • In developing new technologies—Rowan is among the first affiliates in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Northeast Hub, a training network to grow the societal and economic benefits arising from NSF-funded research in science and engineering
  • And in commitment to the community and the economy—this commitment includes a new partnership with Virtua Health, southern New Jersey’s largest health system, which aims to transform and advance health care research and education.

INNOVATION THROUGH CLINICAL DISCOVERY
The Virtua Health College of Medicine & Health Sciences of Rowan University is transforming South Jersey into a regional hub for innovation, research and clinical discovery.

The college encompasses New Jersey’s only osteopathic medical school; an expanded nursing and allied health professions school; a new school of translational biomedical engineering and sciences; multiple new research institutes; and aligned clinical practices to improve patient care and train the health care workforce of the future.

Presently in its planning phase, the School of Translational Biomedical Engineering & Sciences will provide the college’s focal point for health discovery and innovation. The blueprint for advancing its research goals is breathtaking in both speed and scope.

With support from Virtua Health’s $85 million philanthropic investment, the school is recruiting 50 new faculty investigators, including basic and clinician scientists, over the next decade. Plans include the construction of a new facility to support basic, translational, and clinical research.

Hands-on research experience is a key component of Rowan University’s undergraduate program, strengthening students’ opportunities for employment or competitive graduate programs.

The school’s first three research institutes will focus on issues of vital concern:

  • Institute of Cardiovascular Innovation
  • Institute of Solid Organ Transplantation & Regenerative Medicine
  • Institute for Health Equity
Rowan University’s entrepreneurship program encourages entrepreneurial thinking across majors. Offered through the Rohrer College of Business, the program ranks among the nation’s top 50.

UNIVERSITY OF—AND FOR—THE FUTURE
Rowan is dedicated to providing an accessible, affordable undergraduate education and to tackling research that addresses real-world problems— particularly at the intersection of science, engineering, technology and medicine.

Rowan University’s rapid transformation from a well-regarded state school to a national research (Carnegie R2) university with two medical schools will soon include New Jersey’s first veterinary school. Once the program is fully accredited, Rowan University will be only the second university in the nation to offer the M.D., D.O. and D.V.M. degrees.

The University will continue to explore ways to improve higher education, making it more accessible and affordable; pursue practical research that addresses real-world problems in health care, the environment, technology and other fields; and better the economy of the region, always transforming itself to meet the needs of an ever-changing world.
