Among these organizations, the Québec Biotechnology Innovation Centre (QBIC) stands out.
Created in 1996, QBIC boasts 30,000 square feet of laboratory and office space dedicated exclusively to life science entrepreneurs from Quebec and abroad, for the development of new therapies, medical technologies or digital health solutions. Its mission? To facilitate the creation, growth and success of the next generation of life science and health technology (LSHT) companies. From pre-incubation to R&D support, QBIC offers a wide range of programs, all with the same goal in mind: to support and accelerate the start-up and growth of local and international companies by providing access to laboratories, scientific equipment and unique professional and technical services.
In its 27 years of existence, QBIC has proved its worth on countless occasions. The 150 companies supported over the past quarter-century have generated $100 million in revenues and raised close to $1 billion in capital. In addition to creating scientific jobs, QBIC graduates have generated the construction of over 150,000 sq. ft. of laboratory space in Quebec.
Strategically located in the heart of Montreal’s Biotech City, QBIC benefits from the presence of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) and numerous biopharmaceutical companies.
One of the reasons for QBIC’s success is its exclusive access to a vast network of financial, biopharmaceutical, business and academic partners, as well as grant programs.
It’s no coincidence that QBIC’s business model is regularly presented internationally as a model of success: the organization knows how to generate success stories.
