To support its mission, the mandate of Pharmabio Développement is as follows:

  • Support and advise industry and education partners in the development of solutions.
  • Provide partners with tools, programs, and information.
  • Play a leading role in the collection and analysis of industry data and trends.
  • Encourage all partnership and consultation initiatives that support workforce development and a high skill level across the industry.

According to recent estimates, Québec’s pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry consists of some 280 companies and employs over 16,000 people.

Vacancies in the industry are estimated at 1,325 currently and at more than 4,000 over a three-year projection.

As an effort to support its industry, which is faced with various workforce-related challenges, and to increase the talent pool in Québec, Pharmabio Développement has mobilized its partners by developing innovative career promotion solutions.

Several promotion initiatives have been developed, and careers in the sector were promoted to over 4,500 high school students annually between 2009 and 2022.

With the financial support of the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail, a brand-new trade promotion campaign launched in the fall of 2021.

The VisTaScience project is a promotional campaign aimed at high school, college, and university students enrolled in science programs. The campaign’s objective is to inform students of the various trades in life sciences and encourage them to choose a career in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

To complete and make the campaign even more effective, VisTaScience will go around schools to give an interactive talk to students. Our science communicator will present the unique and innovative aspects of our industry with animations. We hope to demystify and present science trades to more than 10,000 young people who are beginning the process of choosing a career.

The first VisTaScience career fair, exclusively dedicated to the promotion of companies in the industry and school programs leading to a career in life sciences, will be held in Montréal on October 2023.
