INNOVATE® Philadelphia

Mural City’s commitment to minimal intervention is central to its identity. Grapes are sourced exclusively from trusted growers within 300 miles of Philadelphia, including vineyards in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Maryland, highlighting the potential of a winemaking landscape that has long been overlooked. The resulting wines are fresh, expressive, and designed for everyday enjoyment–reflecting both the character of the fruit and the ethos of the city itself.

Unlike traditional wineries tucked away in rural landscapes, Mural City brings production directly into the neighborhood. Housed in a converted auto body garage on Frankford Avenue, the space blends its industrial roots with contemporary warmth. Guests are invited directly into the heart of production, where a casual bar and bottle shop sit just steps from the tanks and barrels. Whether lingering on one of the vintage couches, enjoying a flight at the bar or grabbing a bottle to take home, visitors are never far from the action. This openness is intentional. By removing barriers between producer and consumer, Mural City invites guests to better understand where their wine comes from and how it’s made.

Mural City also embraces Philadelphia’s flourishing art community. Each Artist Series wine label features artwork by local artists, transforming every bottle into a canvas celebrating the city’s vibrant art scene. In addition, Mural City has partnered with Mural Arts Philadelphia to create a collaboration wine. 15% of the sale of each bottle of those wines are donated right back to the organization to help further their mission to inspire change through education, restorative justice, and collective art making.

These efforts extend beyond aesthetics; it is part of a broader mission to ensure that the winery remains rooted in its community. Through its core lineup of House White, Rosé, and Red wines, Mural City donates $1 from every bottle sold to support hyper-local public art, beautification and urban farming initiatives as well as programs that promote equity within the wine and hospitality industry. Since its opening in 2019, they have donated over $50,000 to organizations such as The Veraison Project, The Fishtown Neighbors Organization, Tree House Books, The Lutheran Settlement House, and more.

These efforts underscore the winery’s belief that businesses can and should play an active role in strengthening their surroundings. For Mural City, success is measured not only in bottles sold, but in relationships built, artists supported, and neighborhoods uplifted. Each glass poured represents a connection between local agriculture, creative expression, and community investment.

As the East Coast wine movement continues to gain momentum, Mural City has emerged as a leading voice, challenging assumptions about where wine can be made and who it’s for. By grounding their work in transparency, collaboration, and place, they’ve created something uniquely Philadelphian: a space that feels less like a wine bar and more like a community gathering space.

In every sense, Mural City embodies the evolving spirit of Philadelphia – resourceful, creative, and deeply connected to its people. Through good wine that is honest and accessible, and a space that invites curiosity and conversation, Mural City Cellars is not just making wine in the city, they are helping shape the future of what an urban winery can be.
