Under the leadership of eight Quebec academic institutions, the Smart-Digital-Green Innovation™ Network (SDG Innov), a first in Canada, was created on January 16, 2019, with a view to meeting industrial needs requiring inter-university collaboration in research and development (R&D), as well as the training of highly qualified personnel to accompany the smart, digital, and sustainable transformation of Quebec industry and society.

On the academic side, Quebec has leading expertise in R&D and in the knowledge and know-how of SDG technologies such as artificial intelligence, massive data analytics, optimization, the Internet of Things, operations and logistics management, decision support and many others. SDG Innov’s 200+ researchers are conducting research in all areas of Industry 4.0/5.0/SDG, and in several key business sectors of the Quebec regional economy, including manufacturing and aerospace, transportation and logistics, natural resources, energy, telecommunications, health and safety, and construction.

The main achievements of the SDG Innov:
• The Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation, et de l’Énergie (MEIE) of the Government of Quebec co-funds SDG R&D projects of SMEs as part of its program l’Offensive de transformation numérique;

• The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and the MEIE are co-funding “Intelligent Cyber Value Chain Network” (CĒOSNet ) for the creation of industrial digital transformation research laboratories in 8 educational and research institutions in Quebec, thus setting up the first delocalized, open-air manufacturing laboratory in Quebec;

• Grant within the framework of the Collaborative Research and Training Experience program (CREATE);

• Major SDG R&D projects with OEM;

• The development of an SDG Enterprise joint Master;

• Event and dissemination activities 4.0/5.0/ SDG such as the International Innovation Forum, the summer school and seminars;

• The setting up of a project to create a first research center on Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) with three major R&D projects in collaboration with VPorts.
