Atlantic Canadian Fintech Jybe is developing an innovative buy now, pay later (BNPL) twist to the digital subscription economy. Jybe helps digitals ubscription companies increase the number of subscribers opting for their annual subscriptions by offering monthly payments for their larger annual plans. Jybe integrates into a subscription businesses checkout page along with existing monthly and discounted annual subscription options. Jybe pays the upfront cost of the discounted annual subscription directly to the business and breaks it back up into cheaper monthly payments for the user. This gives the consumer access to their service at the cheapest possible price while also giving the business more subscribers and a larger percentage of subscribers selecting the annual plan where they get paid upfront.

Michael Tiller, CEO and Founder

Jybe’s inspiration came from CEO and Founder Michael Tiller’s own frustration with the rising costs of all of his digital subscriptions. When looking at his visa every month the rising quantity and price of digital subscription services was becoming overwhelming. Michael identified that subscribing to discounted annual subscriptions could be a way to save anywhere from 20-40% on the overall cost, but required a large upfront payment. After observing how large unicorn BNPL’s like Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay had taken off by offering flexible payments in other industries he realized that offering this service to the discounted annual subscription option could allow the consumer to access the savings associated with discounted annual subscriptions while still paying in easy monthly payments.

Headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia and serving subscription businesses across Canada and the US Jybe has grown to a team of 5 and launched its payment system for its first adopter subscription merchants in the second half of 2024. Jybe has been accepted to the Invest Nova Scotia: Accelerate Program twice, pitched at the Canadian Fintech Summit and presented at Fintech Meetup in Las Vegas. Jybe is poised to disrupt the digital subscription space addressing financial challenges for consumers and enhancing revenue stability for businesses. The team is excited to bring this solution to market and confident in its potential to transform how consumers and businesses approach digital subscriptions. Look out for Jybe at your next subscription checkout page as the team reshapes the future of subscription payments.
