Ivado – Data-Driven Innovation
Montréal has established its artificial intelligence hub in the heart of the Mile-Ex neighborhood, consolidating the city’s position as a global leader in the sector. There, IVADO has taken up residence within an extraordinary network of academic researchers and companies in the field.
The Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO) is a centre of expertise that was created by Université de Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal and HEC Montréal, in partnership with McGill University and the University of Alberta. It’s vision? To make Montreal a global leader in big data mining, from data to decisionmaking.
Big data is the fuel of the digital era, significantly contributing to the creation of economic and social value. However, only links between academia, the business community, and society will catalyze concrete growth-generating collaborative projects to remove barriers and enhance artificial intelligence (AI).

A VIBRANT ECOSYSTEM
By bringing together six world-class research centres (GERAD, CIRRELT, Mila, CRM, the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Data Science for Real-Time Decision Making and Tech3lab), IVADO has developed a network of over 1,200 researchers, including its co-scientific directors Yoshua Bengio and Andrea Lodi, and more than 100 academic, industrial and government partners. From data to decision making, their expertise covers descriptive and prescriptive analytical frameworks and predictive analysis: the foundations of AI.
IVADO positions Montreal as an internationally recognized center for research, training and technology transfer in the fields of data science, operational research and AI. The Institute is funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund, the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation (MEI), the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) and several industrial members.

IVADO’s pool of researchers and members are working on a large number of innovative decision-making projects based on algorithmic models applied to various fields including energy, transportation, finance, health, natural resources, and many others. IVADO is also involved in flagship initiatives such as the new SCALE.AI innovation supercluster on AI-powered supply chains and the Montreal Declaration for Responsible AI Development.
IVADO transforms scientific discoveries into concrete innovative applications and economic opportunities while ensuring that the benefits stemming from the advancement of data science research are shared equitably by all.
