Collège de Maisonneuve’s Institut de technologie des emballages et du génie alimentaire (ITEGA) is a college centre for technology transfer (CCTT) specializing in the agri-food sector.

Our mission is to assist businesses in developing and implementing new packaging and food processing technologies to help them increase their competitiveness and take a proactive approach to changing trends and markets.

In the context of a circular, sustainable economy promoting clean labelling, we support—with a centre that is unique in Quebec—business innovation by achieving solutions that combine the three interrelated components of a food product: its composition, its processing, and the packaging technologies that enable its preservation and distribution.

Since 2007, ITEGA has been working to improve and optimize food preservation and shelf life.

Our cross-cutting expertise covers functional food packaging, agri-food processes and the valorization of agri-food by-products. The benefits for companies are clear and include:

  • Increasing product shelf life and developing new markets;
  • Improving marketability, food safety and nutritional quality, resulting in value-added food products;
  • Developing green food packaging designs (recyclability, availability, competitive cost, regulatory compliance);
  • Reducing food industry waste and by-products by converting them into food-grade bioplastics;
  • Reducing process operations through process optimization (eco-energy); and
  • Improving business productivity through the implementation of innovative technologies.
