INNOVATION Quebec

FOR 20 YEARS, THE INSTITUT DU NOUVEAU MONDE (INM), AN INDEPENDENT, NON-PARTISAN ORGANIZATION, HAS PLACED CITIZEN PARTICIPATION AT THE CORE OF ITS PROJECTS AND THOSE OF THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT IT SUPPORTS.

INM is driven by the conviction that this endeavor strengthens democracy and helps organizations make better decisions for the benefit of all.

To increase citizen participation, the INM team :

  • offers citizenship education programs aiming to develop civic competences and encourage participation in collective experiences;
  • supports public institutions and organizations in reaching out to the public and stakeholders to consult or involve them in decision-making processes;
  • amplifies the voice of citizens and brings forth solutions to address contemporary issues among public decision-makers and in the public sphere.

We are contributing to the growth of this 3-pronged approach in Quebec and beyond, with the aim of establishing and perpetuating closer ties between the public and institutions. This consultative instinct, when developed by public and private organizations, enables them to think differently, generate new ideas, develop innovative solutions and make decisions with solid foundations that capture a diversity of perspectives and issues.

When these approaches based on participation and collective intelligence are carried out with respect, independence and integrity, they have a great potential for innovation and mobilization, in addition to enabling citizens to actively contribute to community life and enabling decision-making entities to better reflect collective aspirations.

Since its foundation, INM has been recognized as an innovative organization, offering citizenship schools and unmissable events for young people, contributing to the growth of social entrepreneurship as a means of expressing citizen participation, and fostering the emergence of a methodological framework concerning the design and the organization of public participation initiatives.

Today, the INM continues to be an active player in the Quebec innovation ecosystem, and more particularly within the Réseau québécois en innovation sociale (Quebec Social Innovation Network). It is the preferred partner of organizations and institutions wishing to involve citizens and communities in resolving social and territorial challenges.
