That realization led to the creation of Idea Miners.
After an IT career spanning tech, development, management, and enterprise architecture, I became increasingly interested in a fundamental question: Why do so many promising ideas never leave the drawing board? The answer is rarely a lack of creativity. Most often, it’s innovators struggling in vain to find the knowledge, resources, collaborators, and momentum needed to move their ideas forward.
Idea Miners Innovation Solutions Inc. was founded in 2024 with a simple mission: help people bring their ideas to life. We pursue that mission through two core principles—community and action.
From the beginning, Idea Miners attracted entrepreneurs, students, technologists, creators, and professionals from diverse backgrounds. What emerged was not just a series of events and projects, but a way of thinking—the Idea Miner way. We are highly action oriented. Conversations quickly become experiments, partnerships, and initiatives. A member may arrive intending just to talk about a problem and leave as part of a team working on a solution.
To help ideas gain traction, Idea Miners often acts as an early customer or micro-investor, supporting members as they develop initial products and services. Projects have included 3D printing, modular metal creations, microelectronics, electric pedal cars, educational games, and software solutions. Along the way, we’ve learned that innovation is about much more than building a product. Success also depends on legal guidance, marketing, fundraising, software development, partnerships, and countless other supporting capabilities. The Idea Miner way is to turn every experience—whether a breakthrough or a bump in the road—into community knowledge that can help the next innovator.
Manitoba is particularly well suited to the community approach. While larger markets often emphasize competition, Manitoba has built a reputation for community spirit and volunteerism. Organizations such as North Forge, Manitoba Innovates, Red River College, University of Manitoba, MAAIP, and many others have helped entrepreneurs access training, mentorship, facilities, and expertise. Equally valuable are the connections formed through community events, where innovators with different skills and perspectives discover opportunities to collaborate.
As Idea Miners evolved, one trend became impossible to ignore—artificial intelligence.
Having worked through previous technology revolutions—from personal computers to the Internet—I believe AI represents a transformation of even greater magnitude. It brings both opportunity and disruption. Organizations everywhere are asking the same questions: Where do we start? How do we use AI responsibly? Is it really a game changer or just another tech fad?
Those questions led Idea Miners to expand into AI-enabled software development. Today, we view AI not as a replacement for human creativity, but as an amplifier of human capability and a slayer of the barriers to innovation.
That philosophy is reflected in CollaborAI, our emerging AI-powered collaboration platform. Rather than focusing solely on content generation, CollaborAI helps teams organize knowledge, manage projects, preserve decisions, and accelerate professional workflows. In so many ways, it advances the same mission that inspired Idea Miners from the beginning: reducing the barriers between ideas and execution.
