Hoppier was founded in Ottawa in late 2016 by brothers Cassy and Emil Aite. The idea started while Emil was working at Shopify as a software developer and recognized that purchasing for large groups of people can be difficult. “When we started, we didn’t realize how purchasing for companies could have an impact on the happiness of employees, but as we did more research we found it was impossible to find solutions that were simple and allowed a company to make intelligent decisions while scaling and providing consistency in the way they order snacks, supplies, and more,” says Emil, co-founder and CTO.
The company was originally founded under the name Desk Nibbles, focused on making it easy for companies to purchase healthy snacks. They quickly grew to serve 100s of offices in their first year of business and expanded to the United States. After successfully becoming the leading snack and beverage provider to offices, they expanded to begin offering supplies and more to companies, rebranding as Hoppier in 2019.
At the ripe age of three years old, today Hoppier is used by organizations across North America in a wide variety of industries and employs over 20 people. The company bootstrapped for its first two years before raising an angel round of financing. Having outgrown its first office at the Bayview Yards Innovation Centre as part of the Invest Ottawa Accelerator, Hoppier is now located in their own office in the Hintonburg area of Ottawa—still a short walk from the innovation centre.
The Hoppier team has a vision to make work happier for people all over the world and while the team recognizes that making workplace culture great goes far beyond perks, they are committed to bringing thought leadership to organizations through publishing free content and being an example of best practices in the city.
Hoppier has also committed to be an active member in the community, supporting causes such as the Make A Wish Foundation, local food banks, and more.
