INNOVATION Quebec

GÉNOME QUÉBEC was established in 2000, in the wake of the first whole sequencing of the human genome. Member of Genome Canada’s nationwide network, its mission is to support the strategic and scientific development of genomics in Québec. In collaboration with its partners, Génome Québec has invested more than $1 billion collectively in four priority sectors for Québec: health, biofood, environment and forestry.

Génome Québec is a private non-profit organization with a unique business model based on leveraging public dollars. It is recognized for its experience in scientific democratisation, education and social engagement.

Our technological services
Génome Québec operates technology centres that provide nearly $17 million annually in services to academic researchers and industry in Québec, Canada and abroad. The Centre d’expertise et de services Génome Québec provides, on a fee for service basis, complete DNA analysis services: extraction, sequencing, genotyping, gene expression, methylation, cytogenetics-CNV and bioinformatics. Génome Québec also coordinates the CARTaGENE and Genizon biobanks, which make data and biological material available to researchers interested in personalized medicine, genomics and public health.

Research funding programs
With annual revenues of $100 million, Génome Québec manages a portfolio of over 100 research projects. The two flagship programs, the Genomics Integration Program and the Genomic Applications Partnership Program, support the development and application of genomic-based tools, products and processes that meet users’ needs in various key sectors. Other calls for projects are also launched periodically for non-recurring funding opportunities.

Génome Québec would like to thank its two main partners, the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie du Québec and Genome Canada.

“Thanks to the $13.7 million in funding from Génome Québec and Genome Canada, the C3i Center was able to take off in 2017, allowing Québec to become a world leader in the research and commercialization of cell and gene therapies, including in cancer immunotherapy. The steadfast support of Génome Québec over the years has enabled us to develop, right here in Montreal, a most innovative approach to treating chemotherapy-resistant hematological cancers. Since then, we have been serving clients around the world.
