Our mission at Écofaune boréale—Cégep de Saint-Félicien’s college centre for the transfer of technology—is to promote the development of innovative social practices through applied research, technological development, technical assistance, knowledge transfer and scientific knowledge dissemination, enabling all socio-economic players in the fur and leather industries to reposition themselves economically in today’s global market and value chain.
Through a sustainable and eco-friendly approach, we are committed to developing fur, leather and other animal products such as wool and down in keeping with First Nations and Inuit traditions.
We aim to be known across Canada as a leader in applied research in sustainable innovation for the fur and leather industries and their many natural by-products.
Our projects focus on social acceptability, the protection and management of ecosystems, sustainable resource development, the circular recycling of slaughterhouse waste, the production of Quebec and Canadian goods, the promotion of Indigenous and Inuit traditions, tanning process innovation and local production. We also strive to establish an eco-friendly tanning industry in Quebec, develop partnerships between key players in the industry, revive the high-end wool and down industries, reduce local markets’ dependence on imports, adapt supply chains to include local suppliers, and export innovative products.
Through our work, we contribute to driving and transforming a traditional economic activity in decline into an innovative and growing global alternative. We will achieve this through the scientific development of wildlife resources, through integrated development and through engaging partners across the entire value chain.
