INNOVATE® Northern Virginia

Virtually everything we do on our computers, tablets and smartphones runs through data centers. As a colocation data center provider, CoreSite and its partners deliver the services that enable how we live, work and play, creating the “intersection of interconnection” that helps empower modern digital life.

A Focus on Modern Infrastructure and Hybrid IT

CoreSite started in 2001 as CRG West, a company that combined real estate investment and technology innovation to meet the needs of interconnection and data center customers at One Wilshire® in Los Angeles and 55 South Market in San Jose, California. At that time, most people accessed the nascent internet via dial-up, and social media was virtually non-existent.

In 2009, CRG West rebranded as CoreSite – a name indicative of the company’s capabilities and mission-critical reliability. In 2021, CoreSite was acquired by American Tower, one of the largest global real estate investment trusts and a provider of wireless communications infrastructure. As an American Tower company, CoreSite is well positioned to build highly distributed data center capacity that will increasingly support wired and wireless network convergence.

CoreSite campuses are tethered by high-count dark fiber to optimize bandwidth, scalability and performance. Our carrier-neutral data centers, which interconnect key U.S. markets, enable customers to implement diverse hybrid IT strategies and optimize workload placement.

Our facilities, including those in Northern Virginia, spur the development of tech/innovation hubs that attract businesses and stimulate local investment. An innovator in cloud service delivery, CoreSite’s approach to direct cloud connections contributed to a historic industry turning point — offering on-site cloud on-ramps to deliver secure, reliable, lowest-latency connections to major public cloud providers. Today, seamless public cloud interconnection has become a foundation for modern hybrid IT architectures.

Our highly experienced team of experts are dedicated to delivering colocation and connectivity services to customers that include household names, enterprises of all sizes across all industries and start-ups. Use cases include enterprise business processes, telecommunications, government services, financial services, healthcare, content delivery and AI/ML workloads.

Both Innovator and Innovation Enabler

Innovation guides CoreSite’s growth. We develop multi-tenant data centers that are purpose-built to optimize electrical/mechanical components, physical space, reliability, security, compliance and connectivity for organizations with varying requirements. Deployments are customized. Our architecture and design know-how spans high-density servers, ultra-reliable power and cooling systems (including liquid cooling), and low-latency, high-performance interconnection.

Customers count on CoreSite to provide the right infrastructure for their IT deployments by delivering the performance, security, data control and connectivity requirements that meet their needs, enabling them to optimize their IT workloads and accelerate innovation.

Providing Direct Connection to Cloud Since the Beginning of Cloud Services

When AWS launched in 2003, the rush to the cloud was on. AWS quickly faced challenges of managing thousands of connections to the new service. AWS approached CoreSite because our data centers were proven to be reliable, located in key metro markets and network-dense. Customers were already connecting through CoreSite, and AWS provided CoreSite customers the ability to connect directly to AWS servers in CoreSite data centers.

To establish and orchestrate direct connection, CoreSite also pioneered an interconnection platform – now software-defined – that enables secure, direct data exchange across networks, public and private clouds, and digital ecosystems. The platform offers intra-market connectivity to all CoreSite data centers to simplify the management of complex networking tasks.

CoreSite is one of only two data center providers in Northern Virginia to offer direct connections to all the major cloud service providers – enabling customers to run hybrid IT efficiently, reduce operational costs and go to market quickly.

The Vibrant Northern Virginia Market Thrives on Interconnection

The Northern Virginia data center market started out as an interconnection hub for internet backbone providers. CoreSite has been right at home since 2007. Our Reston, Virginia campus consists of three interconnected, state-of-the-art data centers, a vast ecosystem and many campus networks and cloud offerings. Our Northern Virginia campus is certified for the NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center program, enabling customers to host scalable high-density applications including AI/ML. Interconnection capabilities are local, regional, national and international. CoreSite facilities are ready for custom build-outs to help businesses grow by delivering the right infrastructure to align with complex, ever-changing workloads.

Delivering the Connectivity That Matters

Reliable connection is everything when it comes to the digital services that enable the everyday comforts and critical moments that are part of modern life. To empower a more connected future, CoreSite offers the secure foundation – digital infrastructure, interconnection capabilities and cloud/network ecosystems – on which successful hybrid IT strategies are built.

“An organization’s success will be determined by its ability to deploy hybrid workloads at scale and by future-proofing with higher power densities and faster connectivity. The future belongs to organizations that align the right infrastructure with the right workloads.” – Juan Font, President and CEO of CoreSite and SVP of American Tower
