The arrival of Ligga’s fiber optic network in rural schools supports the work of teachers and encourages students’ knowledge and access to technology, benefiting the entire teaching ecosystem and the local community.
Ligga, the main internet company and connectivity provider in Paraná, in partnership with the State Department of Education of Paraná, executed an agreement to bring infrastructure and internet via high-speed fiber optics to schools in rural areas, indigenous villages and remaining communities of quilombos in the inner Paraná state. The arrival of the fiber network began in March 2022 and is already benefiting 148 schools, serving almost 28 thousand students in primary (6th to 9th grades) and secondary school, involving 3,315 teachers.
Advancing education through technology
The state-of-the-art network connectivity solution improves the quality of education in these locations further away from large centers and opens the doors to new educational approaches. Students start using the internet in Programming and Robotics classes, in addition to accessing online educational platforms. Thus, they have support for subjects such as Portuguese, Mathematics, English, among others, which provides comprehensive and updated education so that students are empowered to face current challenges.
In agricultural schools, high-speed internet enables students to learn about adopting new technologies, such as the operation of drones, contributing to digitalization and increased productivity in agribusiness. In indigenous educational units, young people take entrepreneurship classes to encourage the commercialization of local crafts on social media and through e-commerce platforms.
Our mission
Currently, Ligga provides internet via fiber to 1,816 of the 2,104 state schools in 399 municipalities in Paraná, which represents 86% of the total number of educational institutions. The company recognizes the importance of bringing connection to more remote communities and sees education as a central pillar for the advancement of teaching and digitalization both in the state and country.
Impact on the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb)
Furthermore, in recent years, strategic investments by the State Department of Education, which include expanding connectivity to all schools in the state, have contributed to the improvement in the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb) in Paraná. The public secondary education network, which in 2017 occupied seventh position with an index of 3.7 (on a scale of zero to ten), in 2021 rose to 4.6, which represents the biggest improvement across the country.
