The founding of SYNTHÈSE
SYNTHÈSE was founded in 2018 by ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur du Québec (the province’s ministry of education and higher learning) following discussions among digital-creation companies, colleges, universities, associations, and representatives from ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation and ministère de la Culture et des Communications (the province’s ministry of economy and innovation and ministry of culture and communications).
Îlot Balmoral: a project for a cluster where education, R&D and digital creation companies will come together
SYNTHÈSE is affiliated with the Université du Québec head office and overseen by a governance committee consisting of representatives from target sectors: industry associations (Québec Fim and Television Council, La Guilde du jeu vidéo du Québec, and Xn Québec); colleges and universities; and ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur (the province’s ministry of higher education).
SYNTHÈSE’s mission and role
SYNTHÈSE’s mission is to bring together the various players from educational institutions and digital-creation companies (visual effects, 2D-3D animation, video gaming, and digital experiences) throughout Québec to help align training programs and employment needs.
By fostering dialogue and networking between industry, education, and research, SYNTHÈSE acts as a catalyst in efforts to develop the talent needed to ensure continued vitality and growth in the digital-creation sector.
SYNTHÈSE promotes college and university research and contributes to networking between industry and education
SYNTHÈSE encourages innovation and knowledge-sharing through practical research while building ties among educational institutions, industry, and new talent. In addition to promoting research and development projects through various initiatives, SYNTHÈSE initiates networking activities involving the educational, research, and business communities. This research effort contributes to the development of new knowledge in art, science, and technology, thereby fostering interdisciplinary approaches.
SYNTHÈSE also aspires to endow Québec with a domestic and worldwide showcase bringing together, under one roof, shared and collaborative workspaces. In so doing, it will deliver a boost to the development of leading-edge expertise and R&D in the field of digital creation by furthering ties between academic research and business needs.
