Ericsson is one of the global leading providers of Information and Communication Technology. During its 67 years and counting in Canada, Ericsson has been committed to ensuring digital inclusion for all. Since then, we have made an investment in research and development (R&D), and R&D has contributed more than 2,000 patents.
Our Montreal site has more than 1,000 employees with expertise spanning Ericsson’s Business Areas (Networks, Digital Services, Managed Services and Technology & New Businesses). This site is uniquely equipped to drive Ericsson’s strategy in Canada, North America and across the world.
In May 2019, Ericsson created the Global Artificial Intelligence Accelerator (GAIA) Montreal as part of our global initiative. With the advent of 5G and its complexity, GAIA will address and work on machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions for 5G and beyond.
With its AI professionals, this unit focuses on research and development (R&D) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automation, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to create data-driven, intelligent and robust systems for automation, evolution and growth.
Ericsson’s GAIA Montreal team is seizing this opportunity to develop innovative AI/ML based research by leveraging the ENCQOR 5G network, an ecosystem that enables us to work with over 400 SME’s in Quebec and Montréal’s AI ecosystem.
Collaborative research and development are pillar’s of the Montreal ecosystem. We are actively collaborating with MITACS and 8 of Canada’s top universities to lead over 40 applied AI research projects. These projects bring GAIA more than 80 top talented researchers to address the challenges of 5G with AI.
We are in the right place in Quebec as we are pushing the boundaries of Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable 5G networks.
“5G and AI are linked as networks become data driven to manage performance and increased complexity. Our foundation of telecom expertise makes us well positioned to take on the challenges of our customers today in managed services, network product optimization and network operations. This means we know the right problems to solve, how to solve them and what a good solution looks like. We differentiate from competition by providing better performance by combining our domain knowledge and AI competencies.
“The rich AI ecosystem and the broad range of 5G products & services being developed in Montreal and Ottawa, has allowed GAIA to be a key component of Ericsson’s AI strategy”.
“We built the GAIA team with the enthusiasm and agility of a start-up. This was key to scale-up GAIA and to leverage pre-commercial 5G network: ENCQOR. The pace and success organically accelerated for GAIA. The combination of 5G and AI is really where this is headed.
