When I think about the future of innovation, I do not think about a single invention or a single breakthrough. I think about speed, collaboration, and adaptability. Innovation will belong to organizations that can learn quickly, test ideas early, and deliver real results without losing focus on mission impact.

Philadelphia gives us a powerful advantage. This region brings together world-class universities, research institutions, government laboratories, and industry in one ecosystem. When those groups align, ideas move faster — from concept to prototype to operational capability.

The Navy faces systems that are more interconnected than ever. Mechanical platforms now work alongside digital tools, software, and advanced analytics. That complexity creates opportunity, but only if we bring the right disciplines together and collaborate across traditional lines.

At Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD), that is the culture I am building. Our role goes beyond solving technical problems.

We must create conditions where learning, agility, and innovation drive progress across the full lifecycle, from early development to fleet support.

That requires a culture that values curiosity, welcomes fresh perspectives, and sees change as progress, not disruption. The organizations that succeed will combine technical excellence with adaptability. They will move quickly, learn continuously, and stay focused on the warfighter. Innovation is no longer a destination. It is how we operate.
