Since most people spend nearly 90% of their lives indoors, it raises a simple question: should the places where we work really be treated as commodities? I’ve never believed they should.

The environments where people spend their days shape how they think, collaborate, and perform. Buildings should reflect that reality. They should be designed and built with intention, with standards that elevate the people and organizations inside them.

In my experience, excellence has a way of attracting excellence. When a building is developed with high standards – in design, construction, sustainability, and long-term performance – it sends a signal. It attracts organizations that value innovation and talent. Those organizations attract people who share those same standards.

Before long, something interesting happens.

A building becomes more than a workplace. It becomes an ecosystem. Ideas move faster. Collaboration happens naturally. One organization raises the bar and others follow. Over time, a culture forms where excellence is expected and shared. And the impact does not stop at the front door.

When development is done thoughtfully, it strengthens the surrounding community. It signals that investment, innovation, and long-term thinking are taking place in that neighborhood.

For me, development has never been simply about constructing buildings. It is about creating environments where talented people can gather, organizations can thrive, and excellence can take root. When that happens, the results extend far beyond the walls of the building itself. And that is when development truly fulfills its purpose.
