INNOVATE™ Stockholm

Sweden has long been a pioneer in technology and innovation. From Ericsson to Spotify, Klarna and Recorded Future, Swedish companies have helped put us on the global tech map. Today, tech is more than a growth sector—it’s a foundation for our economy and society.

The numbers speak for themselves. Sweden’s tech sector contributes close to 7 percent of GDP, generates over SEK 1,100 billion annually, and includes more than 59,000 companies employing over 265,000 people. Nowhere is this more visible than in Stockholm—the capital and heart of Sweden’s tech economy. Stockholm alone accounts for nearly half of the sector’s revenue and exports. But to me, the city’s real strength lies beyond the numbers: in how it connects people, ideas, and innovation in a collaborative ecosystem where progress happens.

With this central role comes a need for leadership. In a time of geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, and rapid technological change, I believe our sector must do more than adapt—we must lead.

That’s why we launched the Tech Leadership Manifesto at TechSverige. As a leader in tech, I see it as my responsibility—and ours as a sector—to help shape a sustainable future. Not just through the solutions we build, but through how we lead. By developing our leadership and stepping into the public conversation, we enable continued transformation and inspire others—both in Sweden and globally.

The manifesto sets out a shared vision for inclusive, responsible leadership: grounded in ethics, openness, collaboration, and long-term thinking. And it’s not just about values—it’s business-critical. If we want to attract top talent and investment, we must offer not only innovation, but a culture of trust and purpose.

I already see this in action in Stockholm, where leaders act as door openers, not gatekeepers. Where innovation meets impact. But we need more to step forward.

The future won’t build itself. It will be shaped by the choices we make today—and by those of us who see technology as a force for innovation, inclusion, and long-term societal value. Stockholm and Sweden can, should and will lead the way in Europe and globally.
