Hospitals are some of the most profound institutions in America — places where nearly everyone begins and ends their lives. The complexity of these institutions, operationally and administratively, is immense. While no individual or team can optimize this complexity, UnityAI believes AI can.

UnityAI didn’t start with a grand vision of transforming healthcare. It started with a simple, yet powerful belief: There is a correct way to advance patient care throughout the hospital. The leadership team, former hospital executives and data science experts, understand the pain points firsthand.

Edmund Jackson spoke at TEDx Nashville Spotlight alongside Dr. Alex Jahangir of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, exploring the question: Is healthcare evolving in a beneficial way?

They’ve walked the halls and been in the shoes of the very same people they are now trying to build technology for. “It was clear to us that the complexity of running a hospital was only going to grow,” says Edmund Jackson, UnityAI’s CEO and co-founder.

“We knew no single individual or team could solve this alone, but we believed that AI, if integrated properly, could help hospitals work smarter—like one unified team instead of a bunch of disconnected parts.”

Instead of introducing another point solution to the mix, UnityAI is embedding its technology directly within the hospital’s existing workflows. By analyzing real-time data on patient flow, bed availability, and clinical requirements, the AI makes simple, but powerful recommendations, providing staff with the next best action to take and a short description as to how that action was determined.

UnityAI’s first product optimizes patient throughput, ensuring people get the right care in the right place at the right time. Think of the AI as a virtual command center for the entire hospital. While different departments handle their specific responsibilities, the AI keeps track of the bigger picture — from bed availability to patient flow — ensuring everything works in harmony. Their second product, already in use across more than 50 sites across the country, helps providers successfully appeal denied insurance claims by analyzing patient records and insurance guidelines to generate appeal letters and supporting physicians in peer-to-peer conversations with insurers.

In the past, hospitals largely relied on individual expertise and manual processes to manage these complex operations. Now they can connect the dots across departments using AI that processes real-time information about their facility in real-time, helping staff make more informed decisions.

As hospitals manage growing patient demands and razor thin operating margins, UnityAI’s approach is timely. It’s not just about improving efficiency; it’s about fundamentally changing how healthcare is delivered. By streamlining operations and reducing administrative burden, hospitals can focus on what matters most: patient care. This means shorter wait times, more efficient use of resources, and better financial health for the institution.
