In the fall of 2021, VIL (Flanders Innovation Cluster for Logistics –http://www.vil.be/) opened its demonstration center Log!Ville at the Science Park in Niel, centrally located between Antwerp and Brussels. It was founded by VIL to accelerate the transfer/dissemination of innovative technologies and concepts in the field of transport and logistics in its broadest sense. Discover Log!Ville in 360° at https://logiville.be/en/360-tour/.
In this landmark demo and experience center, innovative applications are demonstrated live and virtually, and flanking actions, such as events and networking, are set up.
The term “innovation” refers to both goods and information flows, covers all modes of transport, and relates to automation, digitization, sustainability, and hinterland connectivity.
Companies as well as college and university students will be introduced to the logistics ecosystem in two different ways:
On the one hand, a journey into the future in the digital experience center, where entrepreneurs are immersed in logistics 2023-2050 with the power of visualization, customization, and digital storytelling.
On the other hand, a confrontation with the present in the demo center where mature but non-mainstream logistics solutions are shown and explained by independent innovation ambassadors. Think autonomous boating, flexible solar panels, drones for inventory management, hydrogen-powered forklifts, battery storage, ergonomic robot suits, digital twins, smart robotics, etc.
To keep Log!Ville alive, all the innovations are renewed on a six-monthly basis, with additional focus on bi-monthly topical themes such as workplace safety, sustainable packaging, digital trucking, security, etc. This is how it should be: a sector in motion requires a center in motion!
It is a misconception that innovation is reserved for the happy few. More than 40 partners helped create Log!Ville, multinationals as well as SMEs and startups, rightly called the standard-bearers of the new economy. Innovation is no longer an optional extra, but a must. After all, we live in an interconnected world that is becoming increasingly complex and where everything must be possible, anytime, anyhow, anywhere.
5,000 unique companies and 6,000 visitors paid a visit since the opening. Log!Ville is therefore unique in Europe because, firstly, it is an open center, where nothing happens behind closed doors and, secondly, it embodies both the future and the present.
Don’t believe us? Then listen to our visitors. No excuses anymore.
