How NasaClip is Changing Nosebleed Treatment

In the crowded landscape of medical devices, NasaClip is making a bold statement with its novel approach to treating nosebleeds. Founded by Dr. Elizabeth Clayborne, an emergency physician with firsthand experience in the frustrations of traditional nosebleed treatments, NasaClip offers a revolutionary, practical, and effective solution. The company’s flagship product is an adjustable nosebleed rescue device that provides constant, comfortable, hands-free compression with intranasal sponges that can be medicated, making nosebleed treatment quicker and easier in any setting.

The Inspiration Behind NasaClip

Dr. Clayborne’s journey to creating NasaClip began during her residency at The George Washington University, where she served as chief resident. During this time, she frequently encountered patients with nosebleeds, a seemingly minor issue that often required significant time and resources to manage. “As an ER physician, I’ve seen countless nosebleeds and witnessed the frustration of both patients and healthcare professionals with existing treatment methods,” she says. “I wanted to create a device that makes nosebleed treatment quicker and easier, both inside and outside of the hospital.”

Addressing a Common Problem

Nosebleeds, while typically not serious, can be surprisingly difficult to manage. Traditional methods are often time-consuming, invasive, and painful, leaving patients dissatisfied with their care. NasaClip’s innovative design combines external nasal pressure and intranasal sponges into one hands-free device, providing a better way to treat nosebleeds in clinics, schools, homes, and more. Dr. Clayborne explains, “NasaClip provides the uninterrupted pressure your body needs to complete its natural clotting process. With our device, any child or adult can manage a nosebleed without the need for a doctor.” “As physicians, treating nosebleeds is typically straightforward, but it can become cumbersome because we lacked an effective solution for patients to use while they waited,” Dr. Clayborne explained. “Since these patients often have lower acuity, they sometimes had to wait for hours.” Maryland has some of the highest ER wait times in the country; data from 2024 showed that patients spent an average of more than four hours in ERs before being discharged.

Growing Demand and Expanding Reach

The response to NasaClip has been overwhelmingly positive. The company engaged several big names in the NBA, NFL, travel and event medicine, as well as hundreds of healthcare systems and clinics. The company is raising a $4 million seed round to onboard these B2B customers, launch a reusable and subscription consumer product line, and scale revenue. NasaClip has raised over $3.5 million from venture and physician angel investors and received $300,000 in non-dilutive grants from NSF I-Corps and SBIR Phase I programs.

“We are committed to making NasaClip a household name in nosebleed treatment,” asserts Dr. Clayborne. “Our goal is to empower individuals and healthcare providers with a simple, effective solution that improves care and reduces costs.”

Overcoming Challenges and Breaking Barriers

Dr. Clayborne’s journey with NasaClip has not been without its challenges. As a biracial Black woman in a predominantly white and male-dominated industry, she has had to overcome significant barriers to bring her vision to life. However, her determination and resilience have been key to her success. “I really want to knock it out of the park with NasaClip to show other women and people of color they can be successful in business,” she shares. “Investing in people from my demographic is not charity. I’m hereto bring a return on their money and have a successful business, and I am very confident that I’ll be able to do that.”

Trusted by ER Doctors

NasaClip has gained the trust of ER doctors and healthcare professionals who see the potential of the device to improve patient care and reduce emergency room wait times. Dr. Maurice Reid, an investor in NasaClip and founder of ExpressCare Urgent Care Centers, emphasizes the impact: “This product could immediately be applied and control the bleed in the waiting room, which would help decompress the ERs and get other patients with more serious conditions seen quicker.”

Looking Ahead

NasaClip is not just a medical device; it is a movement towards more efficient and patient-friendly healthcare solutions. Dr. Clayborne envisions a future where NasaClip is available on airlines, cruise ships, and EMS departments, making effective nosebleed treatment accessible to all. She is also exploring future iterations of the device that serves as an intranasal drug delivery platform.

NasaClip is revolutionizing nosebleed treatment with its innovative, hands-free device. Dr. Elizabeth Clayborne’s vision and determination have driven the company to the forefront of medical technology, providing a better way to manage a common yet cumbersome medical issue. With continued growth and expansion, NasaClip is set to become an essential tool in medical and consumer settings, offering fast, effective relief from nosebleeds. Dr. Clayborne sums it up best: “NasaClip takes the pressure off healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers and puts it where it belongs: on nosebleeds.”
