An integral part of our DNA is creating long-lasting customer partnerships, working together to identify our customers’ needs and provide solutions that fuel their success.
We have preserved this keen focus on solving business challenges since our founding in 1984. Len Bosack and wife Sandy Lerner, both working for Stanford University, wanted to email each other from their respective offices, but technological shortcomings did not allow such communication. A technology had to be invented to deal with disparate local area protocols, and as a result of solving their challenge, the multiprotocol router was born.

Our Partnership with the Municipality of Oeiras
Remote Teaching in Schools
The Oeiras Educa project is an initiative by the Municipality of Oeiras that started in April 2020 in response to the pressing educational needs related to the closing of schools due to the Covid-19 outbreak. In partnership with Altice Portugal and Cisco, it allowed the implementation of remote teaching in schools, delivering training to teachers, and creating conditions for common access and experience.
The goal of this project was to enable schools with the necessary tools to continue operating virtually in a seamless way. The Cisco Webex platform (Webex Meetings and Webex Teams), along with an Internet access package and equipment (tablets, laptops and smartphones) provided by Altice Portugal to 1,944 students and teachers, was made available. It included video, messaging and document sharing services, allowing the development of work in a synchronous and asynchronous way, where teachers and students can work and interact, both in classes and in the development of tasks.
These solutions incorporated, by default, strong security mechanisms, including end-to-end data encryption, “manin-the-middle” attack prevention and hosting in local data centers, maximizing the protection of personal data, voice and image.
The Oeiras Educa project is the synonym for transition to digital school, aiming to ensure access to remote education under conditions of equal means and experience for the municipality’s school population, covering a universe of 20,000 students and 2,000 teachers.

Miguel Almeida, General Manager of Cisco Portugal
“At this time of great uncertainty, continuing education is an essential priority. Cisco could not fail to contribute to this project of the Municipality of Oeiras, which we recognize great value, as it will not only allow schools to continue to function under equal conditions and experiences, but will also contribute to the digital transformation of educational establishments, a mission to which we have been trying to dedicate ourselves for some years. It is, therefore, for us a source of great pride to be able to make our solutions available to this project and to know that we are helping to overcome this very difficult moment.”
