Voima Ventures has emerged as one of the Nordic region’s most distinctive venture capital firms, focusing on the commercialization and scaling of science-based innovation. Founded in 2019, with offices in Helsinki and Stockholm, the firm invests in early-stage companies developing breakthrough technologies with the potential to address global challenges and disrupt entire industries. Operating across the Nordic and Baltic regions, Voima Ventures’ mission is clear: to help founders scale global solutions for the people, planet and industry.

Founded on the belief that scientific breakthroughs can form the foundation of future global industries, Voima Ventures focuses on deep tech innovations that often require years of development and significant technical expertise before reaching the market. Successfully commercializing them demands not only capital, but also courage and long-term commitment from founders, able to navigate complex technical, regulatory, and industrial landscapes. Two examples of Nordic deep tech unicorns are ICEYE, which built a global satellite data platform based on synthetic aperture radar technology, and IQM, a leading European developer of superconducting quantum computers. They both teach us that scaling deep tech requires strong links to research institutions, patient capital, and a supportive ecosystem of investors and industry partners that help translate scientific breakthroughs into global businesses.

Voima Ventures works closely with founders throughout this journey, from start to exit. The firm typically invests from pre-seed and research spinout stages through Series A and beyond, helping companies move from scientific discovery to commercial deployment and global growth. Many portfolio companies originate from leading Nordic and Baltic universities and research institutes, reflecting the region’s strong scientific foundation.

The Voima Ventures team currently manages close to €200 million in assets and has a portfolio of over 40 active deep-tech companies. The firm currently manages three funds, including its latest €10 million Fund III, operating across sectors such as advanced materials, life sciences, artificial intelligence, sensing technologies, electronics, and other industrial innovations. Deep tech domains within the portfolio often include technologies such as AI-driven software, 3D biology modelling, semiconductor innovations, space and satellite technologies, advanced sensors, and next-generation materials that enable entirely new industrial capabilities.

Voima Ventures is also an Article 8 fund under the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), reflecting its strong commitment to responsible and sustainable investing. For the firm, sustainability is not simply an environmental consideration – it is a strategic advantage. Companies that integrate sustainable technologies and business models are often better positioned to compete globally as industries transition toward more resource-efficient and climate-aligned solutions. In this way, sustainability strengthens the long-term competitiveness and resilience of the startups Voima Ventures supports.

The firm’s latest fund, Fund III, focuses on three core investment pillars: Green Transformation – for planet balance, HealthX – for wellbeing societies, and Game-changing Technologies – for a better future. Together, these themes represent areas where scientific innovation can deliver both strong financial returns and measurable societal impact.

Green Transformation focuses on technologies that enable the transition to more sustainable industries and energy systems. Investments in this area include innovations in advanced materials, industrial decarbonization, circular economy solutions, and sustainable food technologies designed to reduce emissions and resource consumption.

HealthX targets innovations transforming healthcare and life sciences. This includes biotechnology, platform technologies for drug discovery and development solutions, digital health platforms, and technologies supporting precision medicine and improved disease detection and treatment.

Game-changing Technologies focuses on frontier innovations capable of reshaping entire industries. These investments often involve technologies such as AI, quantum, semiconductors, sensing systems, space technologies, and advanced computing platforms that form the technological infrastructure of future industries.

Voima Ventures has also established a growing presence in Sweden through its Stockholm office, supporting several science-driven startups.

Among these is Epigenica, a biotechnology company developing high-throughput epigenetic screening technologies that allow researchers to analyze DNA methylation patterns at scale, enabling new insights into disease mechanisms and personalized medicine within oncology.

Cellfion is developing sustainable nano cellulose-based membranes designed to replace fossil-based materials used in electrochemical systems such as batteries and hydrogen technologies, enabling cleaner energy storage solutions.

In the health technology space, Hormona is building an AI-powered hormonal health platform that combines at-home hormone testing with personalized health insights, helping individuals better understand and manage hormonal conditions.

Meanwhile, Cubase Bio is pioneering spatial biology technologies that enable advanced 3D analysis of biological systems, allowing researchers to study cellular structures and disease processes with unprecedented resolution.

Beyond capital, Voima Ventures positions itself as an active partner to founders, providing strategic guidance, international networks, and access to industrial partners that can accelerate commercialization. Scaling deeptech companies often requires bridging the gap between scientific discovery and global markets, and the firm’s team brings expertise in venture capital, entrepreneurship, and scientific commercialization to support this process.

According to founding partner Inka Mero, deep tech represents one of the most important drivers of future economic and societal progress.

“In deeptech, pushing the boundaries of science-driven entrepreneurship isn’t just about innovation – it’s about delivering new growth and meaningful global impact alongside strong returns.”

As Europe seeks to strengthen its position in global technology leadership, Voima Ventures aims to continue building the bridge between scientific research and entrepreneurship in the Nordic region. By investing in breakthrough technologies, the firm is helping transform scientific excellence into globally scalable companies capable of shaping the industries of tomorrow.
