It was March 2016 and VeroSource had to lay off its sole employee. Picture it: Everything was looking great for VeroSource, the digital healthcare start-up based out of Fredericton, New Brunswick.
The company was about to celebrate its second anniversary. It had just landed a deal with a large company that wanted to use its software. One of its co-founders had recently left his job to commit to the company full time. It seemed like VeroSource’s goal to make healthcare more accessible to people was about to become a reality. And then… the deal fell through.

The company’s future was suddenly uncertain and co-founders Mark McAllister and Pat Kerry had to make a go/no-go decision. Was this the end of the VeroSource dream?
Not even close! VeroSource persevered. They put their heads down and got to work. A few months later, they landed new business and were able to hire back their previously laid-off employee… and give him a raise! VeroSource continued to grow and develop innovative new solutions that address real issues in healthcare.
A DECADE OF DIGITAL HEALTH SOLUTIONS
In May 2024, VeroSource celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Components of its proprietary, cloud-based VS Platform have been deployed in multiple provinces across Canada and more than a million people have securely accessed personal health records through VeroSource’s software.
The VeroSource team continues to grow, and the company has expanded from its headquarters in Fredericton to offices in Toronto and Halifax too.
What’s the secret? VeroSource credits its success to its talented team, who develop innovative solutions that consistently address clients’ needs and improve healthcare outcomes.
VEROSOURCE: A HEALWELL AI COMPANY
In July 2024, VeroSource was acquired by HEALWELL AI, a Canadian health tech company focused on AI and data science for preventative care. The acquisition enables VeroSource to bring its proven digital healthcare solutions to new markets across the country and around the world.
OPENING THE FLOODGATES
In 2022, Fredericton was getting ready for the first Harvest Music Festival since the pandemic. In a press conference about the festival, the premier of New Brunswick announced that attendee scan verify vaccination through the VeroSource-built MyHealthNBportal.
Within minutes, hundreds of people visited MyHealthNB! And that number continued to climb throughout the week.
MyHealthNB for COVID-19 test results and immunization records was an important milestone towards VeroSource’s goal of putting healthcare data in the hands of people. New Brunswickers can now securely access all of their personal health records(prescriptions, lab results, immunizations, imaging, etc.) through VeroSource’s software.
