Behind the Mascot
Inspired by the incredible story of the world’s smartest dog, Chaser, the Border Collie, SCC adopted Chaser as its mascot to represent the spirit of excellence, innovation, and limitless potential. SCC strives to push boundaries in higher education and student success. By incorporating Chaser, our students are empowered to learn in dynamic and engaging ways, that inspire them to unlock their fullest potential and achieve remarkable success. THE SPARK CENTER SC
The Spark Center SC was established to ignite economic growth in Spartanburg County and to serve as a catalyst for business and entrepreneurial development. Since inception, the Spark Center SC has assisted more than 160 companies and created over 130,000 jobs while generating over $53 Billion in economic output throughout the state. Our Fall Festival and Spring Fling are two signature events that highlight SCC’s commitment to fostering community engagement and providing opportunities for everyone to come together. These fun, family-friendly celebrations offer a space for students, families, and local residents to connect, celebrate, and enjoy the vibrant spirit of our College.
The Fall Festival, held on SCC’s Spartanburg (Giles) Campus, kicks off the academic year with lively activities, food, games, and entertainment for all ages. It’s a day where over 3,000 individuals gather to build relationships with industry leaders and local businesses, have fun, and learn more about SCC. Meanwhile, the Spring Fling takes place at SCC’s Cherokee County Campus, expanding our audience and allowing us to engage with a broader segment of the community. This exciting event brings together the residents of Gaffney and surrounding areas, offering games, food, and entertainment while demonstrating SCC’s commitment to uplifting it’s community. Whether through academic celebrations or community connection, SCC continues to be a place where innovation is sparked by the individuals who believe in the potential and the power of dreams.

AIBody Partnership
SCC’s partnership with AIBody brings cutting-edge technology directly into the classroom, allowing students to engage with artificial intelligence in practical, real-world applications. This collaboration places us at the forefront of the AI-driven technology, being only the second college in the United States to adopt it. As our world faces extraordinary changes in healthcare and higher education, the Chasers continue to enhance our capacity to introduce new technologies that will drive growth and prosperity. Currently, the software is being utilized by SCC’s School of Nursing.
The Hub City Spartanburgers Partnership
As a cornerstone partner of the Hub City Spartanburgers, SCC plays a key role in strengthening community ties and supporting local growth. Through initiatives like the primary sponsorship of veteran programming, we create opportunities to recognize those in our community who have gone above and beyond for others. This partnership is the first and only of it’s kind in South Carolina. The no-net cost investment was made possible by the efficient and innovative fiscal management of college recourses.
Community Impact with Cherokee County Expansion
SCC’s commitment to the community extends beyond the classroom through initiatives like our recent expansion for our Cherokee County Campus – right under the iconic Gaffney Peachoid. This more than $50 million investment will enhance the dynamic learning environment with state-of-the-art academic and workforce training facilities. The expansion also includes another Spark Center, a business accelerator supporting companies relocating to Cherokee County. As SCC continues our extraordinary growth, this expansion reinforces our dedication to providing accessible, high-quality education and workforce development opportunities.
