SC Logistics is South Carolina’s statewide logistics and supply chain cluster initiative managed by South Carolina Council on Competitiveness (SC Competes) alongside its collaborative partners. The cluster operates as an open network built to serve South Carolina’s full logistics ecosystem along rail, across the sea, over the road, and through the air. South Carolina is a leader in manufacturing operations and manufacturing relies on logistics at twice the rate of other sectors, which means logistics is the “magic sauce” that is feeding South Carolina’s key economies.. By connecting shippers, carriers, port and airport leaders, manufacturers, third-party logistics providers, technology companies specializing in logistics efficiencies, and educators, the cluster creates a shared place for industry and academia to collaborate to position South Carolina as a major competitive logistics hub within the Southeast.

The purpose of SC Logistics is to strengthen the state’s logistics cluster through coordination, research, and problem-solving. The cluster focuses on improving how goods move into, out of, and through South Carolina while helping companies respond to changing market demands, infrastructure needs, and workforce realities. In practice, SC Logistics supports both near-term operational competitiveness and long-term strategic growth for the sector statewide.

A major part of the cluster’s work is producing and sharing open-source research on logistics trends, economic impact, workforce demand, and emerging opportunities. Alongside that research, SC Logistics convenes the industry through webinars, conferences, and thought leader and technical discussions that highlight best practices and new innovations in freight movement, distribution, warehousing, and supply-chain technology. These convenings are designed to spread practical knowledge and spark partnerships across the cluster.

SC Logistics also prioritizes the future of logistics workforce. By aligning employers with schools, training programs, and workforce organizations, the cluster works to build a steady pipeline of talent that fits the sector’s continuing rapid expansion. For instance, bringing Supply Chain Games inside of the K-12 classrooms, SC Logistics has introduced these higher-paying logistics career pathways to thousands of students statewide.

Logistics plays an outsized role in South Carolina’s economy, supporting large-scale commerce, job creation, and industrial growth across the state. That scale is why SC Logistics emphasizes multimodal strength, supply-chain resilience, technology adoption, and talent development. The cluster’s larger goal is simple: keep South Carolina moving efficiently today, while positioning the state to lead in tomorrow’s logistics and supply-chain economy.
“From port to plant to porch, we keep South Carolina’s supply chainmoving smarter, faster, and stronger.”
