The Story of Saunum
Andrus Vare, Thermal Engineer and The Creator of Saunum: “Inspired by the experience of my grandparents’ 100-year-old smoke sauna, I set out to create an innovative solution that combines the best features of a traditional sauna with modern technology, delivering a pleasantly mild and relaxing sauna experience without the discomfort of scorching steam. ”Saunum was born from the synergy of scientific thinking and technological innovation. The development work was supported by studies conducted alongside Tallinn University of Technology, analyzing thermal stratification and air movement in the sauna room. Our goal was to solve the challenge of achieving a uniform temperature at both head and foot level.

History and Development
- Establishment of a Saunum Group in 2014.
- Patent for sauna indoor climate adjusting device and method, salty air generator method in 2018. All together there are seven industrial design patents.
- Launch of the Saunum Base sauna climate device, Saunum Premium and Saunum Professional electric heaters in 2019.
- Launch of the Saunum Primary electric heater in 2020.
- Saunum has been listed on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange in 2020.
- Expansion into export markets in 2021. Saunum currently sells its products in more than 30 countries worldwide.
- Saunum started building sauna houses by acquiring Saunum Sauna Team in 2021.
- Launch of the sauna control unit Saunum Leil and smart water dousing system AutoLeil in 2022.
- Launch of the Saunum Spa Session electric heater and Saunum Leil Plussauna control unit in 2023. This heater has a two-level basket and a large stone volume, ensuring uniform and long heat distribution, which also makes the heater more energy-efficient.
- 2025 – two new models of Saunum Spa Session and Pro-Experience heaters will be launched.
