There are pivotal advances in healthcare when everything changes. For example, there is only before and after antibiotics and x-rays. Since the implementation of these innovations, we have never looked back. The same can be said for 3D Printing.

PolyUnity Tech Inc., headquartered in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, is at the forefront of healthcare innovation, harnessing the power of 3D printing to address critical challenges in supply chains, medical device availability, and patient care.

The company was founded in 2018 by 3 physicians who saw the potential for this technology to improve care in Newfoundland and Labrador. The mission was simple: provide every healthcare worker access to the power of 3D Printing. This required building new software applications, assembling a team of skilled designers and providing education on the technology to gain traction. They believed that the ability to design and manufacture what you need, when you need it, where it is needed most will transform the delivery of care around the world.

At the heart of PolyUnity’s approach is its Additive Manufacturing as a Service (AMaaS) platform, i3D.health. This software provides healthcare organizations the ability to design, inventory and produce essential items without any previous knowledge of 3D design or 3D printing. This digital platform significantly reduces reliance on traditional supply chains, streamlines procurement, and enhances efficiency across healthcare facilities.

“Our solutions are built to rapidly solve real-world problems in healthcare” says Co-Founder, Dr. Stephen Ryan. “From reducing machine downtime to creating custom patient-specific devices, we’re ensuring that healthcare providers have the tools they need to deliver the best possible care.

”PolyUnity’s rapidly growing product catalog includes over 500 healthcare-approved items, each developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals and expert partners. Examples of these innovative solutions include:

  • Equipment Replacement Parts: Essential components for hospital beds, IV poles, and other critical equipment are manufactured in-house to minimize downtime and eliminate lengthy procurement delays.
  • Radiation Therapy Boluses: Custom boluses are developed for oncology departments, ensuring precise radiation delivery for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Devices: PolyUnity designs tools such as casts, splints, therapy aids, and mobility supports tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Lab Workflow Tools: Innovative items like specimen holders and centrifuge adapters streamline laboratory processes, boosting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Custom Pre-Surgical Planning Models: Patient-specific anatomical models enable surgeons to prepare more effectively, reducing risks and improving outcomes in complex procedures.

Our vision is woven into our company name. “Poly” means many, “Unity” means working as one. We are going to source, build and host high-quality, impactful 3D Printed solutions in our software as a single source of truth. Any healthcare provider will be able to access our catalogue and avail of a solution that makes their lives better, while generating improved patient experiences.

After running several successful trials and securing service contracts, PolyUnity is establishing itself as a leader in Canada’s MedTech ecosystem. They are currently providing products and services to several hospitals in Atlantic Canada and Ontario, with traction for expansion into Western Canada in the coming year.
