Some companies are built around a product. MoveMobility was built around a purpose. Founded on the belief that business can be a genuine force for good, the Canadian manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vehicles and specialty mobility solutions has grown into a North American leader serving healthcare providers, First Nations communities, emergency services, and community transportation organizations.

The story behind MoveMobility is as human as the work it does. Founder and CEO Richard Jones grew up on a farm in England, where a devastating fire that consumed his family’s livelihood taught him an early and lasting lesson in community and care. Neighbors arrived without being asked. Farmers shared what they had. People showed up. That moment never left him.

“I feel that I will never be able to repay the community after the fire we went through in 1981. But if I can live a life of helping people, then I will consider that a life well lived.”

After immigrating to North America in 2004, Jones found his way into commercial vehicle upfitting. When requests for wheelchair accessible vehicles began coming in, his mind went back to his sister-in-law, who had spent her life in a wheelchair, and the daily struggle her family faced getting her in and out of a vehicle. The memory was enough to change direction.

“I can remember seeing the family driving away and thinking, we just helped someone,” Jones recalls of completing his first wheelchair accessible minivan. “The smile on their faces as they drove off with their child in a safe, compliant vehicle. For me, it ticked the box.”

Mobility That Makes the Difference

Today, MoveMobility designs and manufactures a broad portfolio of vehicles, from wheelchair accessible minivans and full-size vans to purpose-built ambulances and mobile medical units. Every vehicle serves a specific mission: helping organizations deliver care with greater safety, dignity, and efficiency.

“Every vehicle we build has a direct impact on someone’s life,” Jones says. “It may help a paramedic reach a patient faster, allow a senior to attend a medical appointment, support a person with mobility challenges in maintaining their independence, or enable healthcare professionals to bring services directly into a community. The impact goes far beyond the vehicle itself.”

Innovation Grounded in Real-World Need

At MoveMobility, innovation is not driven by trend or technology for its own sake. It is driven by the people who use the vehicles.

“Innovation in our wheelchair vehicles is customer driven,” explains General Manager Bryn Jones. “We continue to listen to our customers, understand their challenges, and address the issues they face rather than innovating for innovation’s sake.”

That philosophy has guided one of the company’s most significant undertakings: a purpose-built ambulance designed from the ground up to reflect MoveMobility’s mission.

“The purpose of MoveMobility is simple: removing barriers to healthcare and transportation,” says Innovation Manager Stuart Cavenagh. “Our goal was never to build just another ambulance. It was to create a unit that meaningfully addresses current industry constraints while delivering a better experience for both paramedics and patients. By listening closely to end users throughout the design process, we are confident this product responds to real-world needs and sets a new standard for emergency medical transportation.”

A Company Built on People

From the beginning, Richard Jones held two goals: build vehicles that help organizations care for people, and build a company where the team could grow and thrive. Those two commitments have never been separate ideas.

“Early in my career, I realized that some of the most rewarding moments in business were not tied to financial results,” Jones says. “They came from seeing people grow. Watching a young employee develop confidence, learn new skills, buy their first home, or build a career they never thought possible had a lasting impact on me. I wanted to create a company where those opportunities existed every day.”

A New Facility. A New Chapter.

MoveMobility recently moved into a new, expanded facility, a milestone that reflects both how far the company has come and where it is headed.

“This building is so much more than bricks and steel,” Jones says. “It represents opportunity, investment, and confidence in the future. It gives us the space to innovate, grow our team, develop the next generation of leaders, and better serve our customers across North America.”

The ambition ahead is clear. New solutions, new markets, and a growing capacity to help organizations deliver care to the people who depend on them. But the core of MoveMobility remains unchanged.

“The vehicles we build will continue to improve lives, but our greatest legacy will be the people we develop, the careers we create, and the positive impact we leave behind,” Jones says. “Our new facility is not the finish line. It is the foundation for the next chapter, and we believe the best is yet to come.”

At MoveMobility, the mission has never wavered. Every vehicle that leaves the floor carries with it a belief that business, at its best, is a vehicle for something far bigger than profit. It is a vehicle for possibility.
