150+ Programs
Eight Schools of Study make up a curriculum that is continously reviewed and optimized to meet workforce demand. Students are known by their name, not a number, with an average class size of 17.
Over $150,000 in Scholarships
Affordable tuition ensures students can complete their programs without substantial debt and be ready for the workforce immediately. Plus, many students can attend with little or no out-of-pocket cost thanks to programs like SC WINS and the LIFE Scholarship. Students who wish to transfer to a four-year college can save many thousands of dollars by completing their first two years at MTC.
Tailored to fit you
MTC offers flexible class schedules at eight different locations with evening, day, and online courses available to fit any schedule.

You Can Get Anywhere From Here
Midlands Technical College (MTC) is a forward-thinking, proactive college that believes in real-world experiences and hands-on training in an atmosphere built to provide positive learning experiences. MTC is redefining what a technical college is, through a broad range of programs; partnerships with local employers; and facilities with high-tech equipment, including some found nowhere else in the state.
Whether students are ready to embark on a rewarding career path or transfer to a four-year institution, Midlands Technical College expertly prepares them quickly, conveniently, and affordably.
Leading SC in Active Apprentice
Mavericks continue to lead the Palmetto State inactive apprentices. Out of all 4,949 apprentices statewide, MTC enrolled 1,371 of them, or 28%. The college partners with many local and state employers to offer apprenticeships. Take the Prisma Health Nursing Scholars program as an example. Prisma Health invested $5 million to pilot the program with five colleges and universities across the Palmetto State, with MTC being one of them. The program allows students to take classes at MTC while working at a local Prisma Health hospital, offering scholarships and paid hours on the hospital floor to gain practical knowledge before graduating with an associate in applied science.
Another example includes the South Carolina Automotive Dealers Association’s (SCADA) automotive technician apprenticeship program. Launched in 2023, the program allows Mavericks to earn a competitive salary while gaining the skills needed to enter and grow in an in-demand occupation with great income potential. Program participants earn scholarship money from SCADA, dealership placement, and $10,000 worth of tools.

Serving Those Who Serve
Each year, the Midlands Technical College Foundation hosts a golf tournament to support scholarships for veterans, current service members, and their families. In 2024, the Foundation raised $135,000, beating their previous records of $100,000 in 2023, $75,000 in 2022, and $50,000 in 2021.
Midlands Technical College is the largest provider of veterans’ educational benefits in South Carolina. The college was designated a Purple Heart College in 2019 and is the only one in South Carolina to be designated as a Vet Success on Campus (VSOC) by the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affair.
First Scholastic Esports Championship
MTC hosted South Carolina’s first scholastic esports championship in May 2025 with over 150 high and middle schoolers throughout the state. Families and friends were invited to watch the students battle it out over Super Smash Bros and Rocket League. Esports are one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide and newest games being introduced at the 2027 International Olympic Games in Saudi Arabia.

The Compass
In celebration of 50 years in education, alumni, faculty, staff, and students dedicated the compass on the Airport Campus during our 2025 Homecoming celebration. The original compass was completed in 2002 and features eight pathways that now represent MTC’s eight schools of study that come together as one. Our goal is that every Maverick crosses the center of The Compass and discovers their own direction.
Sparking Careers in Welding
The college hosts the annual high school welding competition on our Airport Campus in West Columbia. High school students from around the state showcase their skills in SMAW Fillets, SMAW Groove, and GTAW Fillet welds.

Electrifying the Midlands Economy
In March 2023, Scout Motors announced their plans to establish their only manufacturing facility in the world in Blythewood, SC. Midlands Technical College has partnered with Scout Motors to provide training for the nearly 4,000 workers the plant intends to hire to get their electric SUVs rolling off the line.
Digging Better Opportunities
Truist Financial Corporation’s community reinvestment department and the Truist Foundation funded $700,000 to launch South Carolina’s first mobile heavy equipment operator program. The funding allowed MTC to purchase two simulators that teach students how to operate four types of heavy equipment: backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, and motor graders.
As the new heavy equipment operator program evolved, MTC partnered with Lexington County to offer an apprenticeship program. With classes taking place at the Lexington North Lake Center, the apprenticeship program helps train operators in Lexington County to maintain 1,300 miles of road.

Here Comes the BOOM
Building Occupational Opportunities in the Midlands (BOOM) is a construction job-training program for high-functioning high school students with disabilities, allowing them to receive hands-on, real-world experience in the construction field.
Each year, MTC graduates these individuals and helps place them in jobs throughout the Midlands. Each student must complete a 90-hour course while earning their certificates in building construction and OSHA credentials.
3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF!
Midlands Technical College is proud to be the only college in South Carolina to participate in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program. The program allows grade schools, technical colleges, and research universities to apply to have student research board a rocket, travel to the International Space Station and have their project tested in space.
In November 2024, our Mav-in-Space team traveled to the Kennedy Space Center where they watched their research – how microgravity effects the production of calcium oxalate crystals in edible greens – launch to the International Space Station from the historic Launch Complex 39A.

First in the Nation
As the Palmetto State continues to see an increase in population, so does the number of calls for emergency medical services. MTC’s Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Program is the first in the nation to attain a letter of review from the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions.
