For more than 40 years, Lockheed Martin has proudly called Greenville, South Carolina home, embedding deep local roots while contributing to global security.

Known as the “Global Home of the F-16” and proud winner of “The Coolest Thing Made in South Carolina,” the site produces the F-16 Block 70/72 – the newest and most advanced version of the F-16 – and offers comprehensive aircraft modification, maintenance, repair and overhaul services for military and civil aircraft.

Over the years, the inaugural team of 12 has grown to more than 1,800 employees, and the site now covers 300 acres with 16 hangars. The continued expansion is driven by the dedication of its team and the increasing global demand for the company’s aircraft and services. This growth highlights the critical role the Greenville team plays in advancing security for America and its allies.

The Lockheed Martin Greenville site generates more than $1.3B in total annual economic impact (direct and indirect) in South Carolina, and beyond economic contributions, its employees have volunteered thousands of hours and donated millions of dollars to local organizations.

Global Home of the F-16

In 2018, Lockheed Martin relocated the F-16 production line from Fort Worth, Texas to Greenville, South Carolina in response to increased international demand for new production F-16s.

The production line in Greenville provides U.S. allies with a highly capable and effective fighter jet for peacekeeping and defense missions. This, coupled with the economic impact of the line, which provides 46,000 American jobs (direct and indirect) – truly makes it a national security asset and gem of South Carolina – and America.

The F-16 Block 70/72 produced in Greenville features advanced avionics, weapons, battlespace awareness and other enhancements for safety and durability.

Additionally, the upgrade and sustainment programs that Lockheed Martin provides ensure the aircraft it produces can operate for decades to come, and support its customers’ national defense, regional security and interoperability.

The Proven and Powerful F-16

The F-16 Fighting Falcon has dominated the skies for more than 50 years and stands as one of the most iconic fighter aircraft in history. It continues to fulfill vital missions around the world, building partnerships between nations and bringing advanced, innovative capabilities to secure air dominance and stability.

Today’s F-16 – the Block 70/72 – is the most advanced 4th generation fighter ever, ensuring forces around the world are ready now and ahead of ready for what’s to come.

The Greenville site is at the forefront of F-16 innovation, spearheading the integration of advanced technologies through its 1LMX digital transformation program and cutting-edge mission systems in the Block 70/72.

In 2023, the F-16 won the “The Coolest Thing Made in South Carolina” award after a two-month contest that yielded more than 220,000 votes.
