In partnership with the Quebec University research community, including the CRCHUM, École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) and, TELUQ, Emovi completed the development of its first product, the KneeKGTM, an innovative clinical tool specifically designed to measure the biomechanical markers and the health and alignment, of a patient’s knee while in motion and weight-bearing. This is in contrast to a physician visually examining the knee and the static images provided by an MRI or X-ray.

In order to assess the knee joint function, a diagnostic tool needs to be precise, reliable and eliminate primary sources of measurement errors, such as soft tissue artifacts from the skin and muscles over the underlying bones. It needs to measure the knee’s dynamic alignment and accurately identify mechanical impairment in 3D. This is what the KneeKGTM offers and is the first product to attain and provide such an intricate level of information on the knee joint.

The computerized assessment based on AI/ Machine Learning provides valuable clinical data about dynamic alignment and other mechanical deficits to better understand knee pain and patients’ symptoms. The KneeKGTM software extracts objective data to report on new mechanical biomarkers related to knee pathologies and risk factors for disease progression. It uses decision tree classification approaches, AI-specific statistical models for multivariate correlation analysis, and supervised machine learning methods to help healthcare professionals improve treatment decision-making, directing patients to a more personalized care plan. Additionally, integrated AI technology supports the development of novel biomarkers to predict which patients will respond to treatment and improve the care trajectory’s efficiency.
