I’ve always believed that opportunity isn’t what you have – it’s what you use. And most people never scratch the surface of their own. We wait. We overthink. We hesitate. We look around for someone to tell us that we’re ready, that we’ve earned it, that we’re allowed to go. But the truth is: nobody’s coming to give you permission. Or do it for you.
When I started in the music industry, I had no real relevance in it. But I had vision, intuition, and obsession. That’s it. I didn’t know all the answers – I still don’t – but I knew what mattered. I could understand when a unique moment was real. That’s what I trusted. You won’t necessarily be the most experienced person in the room, nor the only one who is presented with the opportunity. You need to be the one who sees things differently, who’s willing to take the risk everyone else is avoiding. That’s where the breakthroughs live.
I’ve seen that success doesn’t come from playing the game better. It comes from changing the game entirely. That’s not just true in business – that’s true in life. The system, the path, the safe road – is built for predictability. No greatness grows there. People say you have to disrupt – and often, that means disrupting yourself. Unlearning what you’ve been taught, abandoning the comfort of what’s working, and making moves in moments that may scare you. That’s where you find out who you really are.
One of the most powerful things I’ve learned is this: energy is a currency and momentum is everything. Who you give it to, where you spend it, how you renew it – it matters more than money or strategy or planning. Protect your energy like your life depends on it, because it does. Surround yourself with people who challenge you, who don’t just hype you up but hold you accountable. The ones who give energy in return. The wrong people will drain the life out of your dreams – and you.
And finally: don’t chase success. Chase impact. That’s the only thing that lasts. The charts will change, the accolades will fade, all material things will belong to someone else – but the ripple effect of what you build, the lives you touch, the people you elevate… that is legacy.
Whatever you’re doing, make it matter in the end. And don’t wait for the green light – it’s time to hit the gas.
