Kevin McGinnis currently serves as the President & CEO of the Keystone Community Corporation https://www.keystonedistrict.org/ a non-profit organization tasked with the planning, development, and operations of a thriving and diverse innovation community in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
Prior to his role with Keystone, he was the founder & CEO of Pinsight Media, a wholly-owned big data and analytics subsidiary of Sprint Corporation. In 2012, with much of his career centered around innovation and intrapreneurial initiatives, he led the efforts to commercialize a non-core technology.
McGinnis led the efforts to acquire a small startup, move the internal technology and business team off the Sprint campus and into downtown Kansas City and successfully grew the business to over 120 employees, $35M in revenue and created Sprint’s only free cash flow positive business unit by 2017. The unit was sold to an international advertising company at the end of 2017 as Sprint was positioning itself for an eventual sale to T-Mobile.
During his 20+ years at Sprint, McGinnis spent several years in the role of Vice President of Product where he led teams responsible for numerous industry-leading innovations in areas like mobile commerce, mobile software development, connected vehicle & IoT, and wireless/wireline convergence. McGinnis served in numerous executive and leadership roles across customer care, retail and telemarketing sales, marketing and business development during his 24-year tenure at the company.
As a community leader, Kevin is a leading advocate for the growing regional technology and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Kevin was the driving force behind the creation of the Sprint Accelerator, Kansas City’s first corporate accelerator, in 2013. He has been a fixture in the Kansas City technology scene, twice named to the Kansas City Business Journal’s Power 100 and serving as the board chair for the KC Tech Council over a four-year period from 2013-2016.
Kevin holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication from the University of Kansas. He has also completed executive education programs and earned certificates in Executive Leadership from Duke University and Innovation & Entrepreneurship from Stanford University. He has three adult daughters and lives in Overland Park, Kansas.
