Bliss Applications was officially launched in late 2009 by its partners: André Gil, Tiago Janela and WYgroup, in which Bliss is included.
After going to New York and buying their first iPhones, the dream was born: to create a company dedicated to the development of mobile apps.
2010 was year zero, year of apprenticeship. In the same year, Apple launched the iPad, and we created our first iPad app, the game SpinMyParty. This one was highlighted in many Apple Stores around Europe and in the media in the United States. Still in 2010, we rolled out the mobile app Vamos Sair (Let’s Go Out), which became the number 1 paid app in Portugal for several months, and the game Tap Soccer.
By this time, we were already creating digital products.
2010 – Our first client landed in June 2010. They challenged us to create an iPhone app for Mitsubishi, focused on the presentation of their model ASX.
In these first years of life, we built different digital products. Another one worth highlighting was created for Leya. This was an app that allowed users not only to buy digital books, but also to read them. Later, it also came to include a cover recognition system that enabled the interaction between physical books and digital content.
2011 – In 2011, Optimus decided to invest in the creation of an app for Optimus Alive, their music festival. At the time, it was a groundbreaking app. It included augmented reality, Facebook integration and location of friends, among other features. This app brought us more visibility, which led us to work also with Vodafone, in many music festivals, such as Rock in Rio 2012.
2014 – In 2014, our growing experience related to events pushed us to create a new product focused on corporate events: Embly. This was a platform aimed at event organisers and attendees. We continue to have fantastic customers with challenging projects, which allow us to do what we like most: thinking, designing and building digital products. Whether they are a mobile app, a web tool, a new digital service, or a software platform.
2015 – In 2015, Bliss was a team of 30. At that time, our main focus was to support the creation of many national and international startups, such as Keepr, Styme, Mesmo, and eGuru. Working with them brought us more know-how related to the creation of digital products. We got to understand the challenges of creating new products as the core of a startup. Not all of them survived. A highlight for Styme that keeps operating in Brazil, in the catering business.
In 2015, we also worked with Banco BEST with whom we launched the first bank app for smart watches in Portugal. In 2016, Banco AtlĂ¢ntico Europa challenged us to help them create an app with an innovative UX and UI. Our relationship with the national and international banking kept growing, and, in 2018, CrĂ©dito AgrĂcola called us to work on the first fully mobile national bank, moey!, which would be launched at the end of 2019.
2016 – Going back to 2016, that was also the year we entered the field of ioT (Internet of Things) and home automation. We helped EDP launch a completely revamped version of its cutting-edge product, re:dy. And later, in 2019, with Prio we brought to market the first app in Portugal that allowed users to fuel their cars and pay for it.
2020 – In 2020, we strengthened our presence and collaboration with international clients such as Global Shares in Ireland, and TD Bank in Canada.
These were just some of the clients and projects that shaped our journey, allowing us to reach where we are today: a fantastic and experienced team of 100 people.
We continue to have fantastic customers with challenging projects, which allow us to do what we like most: thinking, designing and building digital products. Whether they are a mobile app, a web tool, a new digital service, or a software platform.
