Lighting the Way to a Healthier World
Since we began, Violet Defense has been on a journey to protect the places where people live, work, play, and learn every day. Essentially bringing the germ-killing power of sunshine indoors, Violet Defense uses its patented UV disinfection technology to protect everyday spaces from harmful pathogens by killing up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses, including E. coli, Salmonella, MRSA, C. diff., Norovirus, C. auris, and Coronavirus.
As the only known Pulsed Xenon solution that can be installed into a room full-time and run autonomously, we have created a continuous way to address disinfection needs of all types of settings. With the COVID-19 pandemic, now more than ever, UV disinfection can play a critical role in protecting healthcare workers, first responders, and military personnel as well as everyday settings such as hotels, schools, food processing, and
Violet Defense was founded in 2012 after our founder, Mark Nathan set out to find a better way to disinfect everyday spaces after falling ill one too many times from frequent traveling on airplanes and staying in hotels.
With the mindset that there had to be a better way to protect our world from germs, our founder made a breakthrough discovery that eventually led to the patented technology behind Violet Defense.
After years of research, Mark discovered a unique way to combine UV and visible light sources with a highly transmissive lens material to produce greater photonic energy.
Because the lens can withstand direct and immediate contact with the light source, we have the ability to miniaturize the technology deployment. Violet Defense secured extensive global patent protection for this breakthrough discovery.
After conducting independent lab validation that proved the technology capable of killing up to 99.9% of key pathogens, Violet Defense launched its first product line, Surface & Air Germ Elimination (S.A.G.E.) UV, in October 2017.
Over the next couple of years, Violet Defense began solidifying key partnerships including a partnership with Siemens to integrate its technology with their building automation systems (2018); an exclusive deal with Orlando Magic to protect their player locker rooms and training areas (2019), and a major distribution agreement with PURO Lighting to bring the technology to commercial and industrial locations across the US and Canada (2019).
The S.A.G.E. UV line of products use a powerful, broad spectrum, pulsed Xenon light to deploy a combination of UV-C, UV-B, UV-A, and violetblue wavelengths. S.A.G.E. UV products are designed to disinfect both air and surfaces whenever an area is unoccupied.
With advanced programming capabilities, including scheduled times of operation or via integration with building automation systems via BACnet, and built-in motion detection, S.A.G.E. UV products can safely bring clinical-level disinfection to a variety of environments. Studies have demonstrated the use of ultraviolet light not only effectively kills bacteria, mold, fungus, and viruses in the environment, but can significantly reduce infection rates (up to 30%) in healthcare settings. Furthermore, as UV light attacks the DNA and RNA of bacteria and viruses, microbial cells have shown no ability to develop resistance to this technology, as opposed to traditional cleaning methods.
Since the product launch, Violet Defense has broadened its product offerings into a comprehensive set of solutions that are cost-effective, clinically effective, and operationally effective providing up to 360 degrees of coverage with units like the Flash M3, to make it easier for spaces to achieve their disinfection goals. At less than $2 per disinfection cycle, Violet Defense’s products provide a sustainable, effective, and extremely viable alternative to harmful chemicals or other UV products on the market that can cost upwards of $125,000 per unit.
With a complete set of installed and mobile solutions, Violet Defense can defend against germs in:
• Healthcare Facilities
• Office Buildings
• Government & Military Facilities
• Public Transportation
• Emergency Management Vehicles & Buildings
• Athletic Facilities
• Schools & Universities
• Restaurants & Food Service Areas
• Assisted & Senior Living
• Residential Spaces
• And more…
Violet Gro’s LED grow lights were designed to provide plants the intensity of light they need across a broad spectrum, but only targeting the specific wavelengths of light that plants need most for healthy growth, thereby minimizing the amount of energy wasted.
The patented technology provides plants with more photonic output at a lower energy usage than other lighting solutions because more light is able to make it through the transmissive lens and ultimately reach the plant. While this not only makes the lights run at lower temperatures than traditional ag lighting (i.e. HPS), Violet Gro lights run cooler than even the market-leading LED products.
With solutions for both horizontal and vertical farming, Violet Gro provides an advanced lighting solution for both greenhouses growing lettuce to vertical towers growing cannabis, like those of Hyperponic’s CropTowers, for which Violet Gro is the primary lighting source.
Violet Gro is also looking to leverage the benefits of their technology in the ultraviolet space by creating a UV light that can trigger enhanced plant processes to increase production of flavonoids and cannabinoids, as well as protect against mold, mildew, and other plant pests.
In addition to creating healthier spaces, Violet Defense also wanted to find ways to help disinfect the critical items we use every day. Through the UV Decon series of self contained lockers and trailers, we can now also disinfect a variety of items, including personal protective equipment and other gear for healthcare workers, first responders, and military; sports equipment for athletic teams and schools; and even children’s toys.
Violet Defense’s newest Gen 3 series will work on any voltage across the globe and our water disinfection solutions are under development. Violet Defense is truly on its way to helping protect our world from germs.
