SETsquared Bristol - University Business Incubator

ELEVATOR PITCH

Twice named Global #1 University Business Incubator, SETsquared is a long-standing enterprise partnership between the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey, which specialises in growing technology startups through its world-class business support programmes.

OUR STORY

SETsquared Bristol’s vision is to create a thriving economic landscape for tech startups in Bristol and the South West Region.

Since launching in 2002, its members have raised a combined £430m+, and over 80 ventures, both resident and virtual, are currently supported by the incubation programme. SETsquared Bristol provides a world-leading and bespoke business development support programme tailored to the size, stage, needs and product offering of a company.

All tech entrepreneurs can benefit from Entrepreneur-in-Residence sessions, business review panels and workshops.

"They’ve provided everything we need from a home: support, advice, connections, guidance and training"

- - Steve Cliffe, CEO, Ultrahaptics

Diversity
Under Centre Director, Monika Radclyffe, SETsquared Bristol has carried out two diversity research reports: one into gender inclusion and one into Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) inclusion. These have led to the implementation of a ‘Breakthrough Bursary’ for three BAME founded startups.

How to enter
SETsquared Bristol accepts tech companies from any background or sector with high commercial growth potential who are seeking outside support and advice that will help accelerate their company to market. Whilst it is connected to the University of Bristol, you don’t need to be a university spin-out to apply.

Successes
Successes include alumnus Ultrahaptics’ expansion by acquiring Leap Motion and Ziylo’s groundbreaking acquisition deal worth up to $800m. SETsquared Bristol was also awarded ‘Highly Commended’ at the 2019 Bristol Life Awards, and Monika Radclyffe was awarded Innovation Champion at the Launch Great West Awards 2019.

"Becoming a SETsquared member has provided a rigorous framework to drive the business to our next steps."
